Mission: The mission of the urban farm at stapleton (tuf) is to provide experiential learning and practical work experience for young people in a farm setting. Our purpose is to inspire excitement for learning while fostering personal confidence, resilience, teamwork, and real-world problem solving skills.
Programs: Programs: tuf offers programs to inspire learning through practical work experience in farm setting while fostering respect, responsibility, curiosity, caring, and grit. The tuf equestrian program: participants learn the basics of equestrian activities including horsemanship and animal husbandry, and have the opportunity to progress from beginner to advanced levels. In 2017 tuf equestrian program served 240 youth. Tuf kids: tuf kids is our signature program for developing teen leaders. This program allows teens to learn and practice leadership, citizenship, and life skills, with 17 participating. Summer discovery: we offer a variety of camps and classes throughout the summer. Older youth participate in equine, animal husbandry, and horticulture tracks. Young children participate in the popular storybook farm summer camp that integrates literature and farm life. In 2017, 130 youth attended our summer camps. Farm to school program: students participate in field trips that provide an introduction to the farm and include guided tours led by volunteers who follow carefully crafted field trip curriculum materials. 251 youth came out to the farm to experience the farm or horsemanship classes with our gowild partners (great outdoor colorado grant). Also, tuf hosted 61 school trips to the farm with 1464 students. Hype-hen partnership: our partnership with denver public safety youth program resulted in a diversion project for youth who are working to return to high school, work and/or their community through the hype program. In 2017 97 youth participated in this program with 1940 hours at the tuf. Family programs: parents are invited to join their kids for various family programs. For example, 43 families use the community garden to grow their own food. Additionally, the general public may visit tuf for self-guided tours two days per week. In 2017, 1050 volunteers contributed 7,909 hours of service to tuf.
