Mission: United way of salem county engages the caring power of the community
Programs: Community and agency services: united way on its own and in partnership with other local agencies provides direct services to the community. Services include income tax assistance (vita), parenting training, children's literacy programs and events, big read, monthly food distribution, emergency assistance to individuals through partner agencies, holiday assistance, children's safety training, information and events. United way is also involved in a parternship to provide and install child passenger safety seats. Vita services are also provided in a coalition with three other counties. Other services and events are provided as need to advance the united way mission.
volunteer center: the purpose of the center is to recruit and train volunteers to serve salem county. United way advances common good by encouraging local citizens to give, advocate, and volunteer. The center provides listings of volunteer opportunities throughout the county, provides local events that use volunteers, and encourages continual volunteer activities. It also provides training to agencies to assist them in enhancing their use of volunteers. The center provides an annual community re
fund distribution: united way of salem county maintains and rfp process for the distribution of undesignated contributions. The process and applications are provided by the united way community impact council made up of community volunteers and support staff. The council makes funding recommendations to the board of directors for their approval. Upon approval, a contract is entered into with the agency. Funding is then distributed on a monthly or quarterly basis.
