Mission: The oliver scholars program prepares high-achieving african-american and latino students for success at top independent schools and prestigious colleges. We provide crucial support for our scholars so that they can realize their full potential and ultimately give back to the city, the nation, and the world.
Programs: Scholar services - 32 percent of graduates have gone to ivy league colleges. Almost ninety percent will enroll in schools on us news and world report's top 100 list. Our community of educators, mentors and peers encourages and promotes scholarship, service and leadership throughout the students' education career. We provide crucial support for both the scholars and their families to address the challenges of this transformative journey. The oliver scholars program staff support students' academic, social, and personal progress throughout their high school careers. They are also matched with alumni and other professionals who offer their guidance, friendship, and support as mentors. Scholars receive school visits twice(2) annually and participate in special events focused on college and career, as well as leadership development. Juniors and seniors participate in college tours and seminars along with sat test preparation. Since the inception of the program all our seniors have graduated and were admitted to colleges and matriculated with financial aid packages.
admissions and recruitment - the program reaches out to public schools and community-based organizations throughout new york city to solicit nominations of students that actively pursue knowledge and demonstrate the potential for additional growth. Students and families receive guidance throughout the college admissions process. summer immersion program - this is a five(5) week, fulltime education enrichment course where students learn to become scholars. The internally designed curriculum helps them to develop academic, social, and leadership skills required to succeed in independent schools. This program is a two(2) year summer initiative: one between 7th and 8th grade and one between 8th and 9th grade as follows:summer immersion program i - serves rising eighth graders. Summer immersion program ii - dedicated to those entering their freshman year of high school.
placement - the program emphasizes the placement of each individual scholar in a school that provides the appropriate environment for their personality, learning style and desired goals. In 2014, oliver placed scholars in schools that offer a excellent education and support for the educational, social and economic needs of our students and their families.
