Mission: The mentoring partnership of minnesota (mpm) builds and elevates the capacity of programs, systems and policies to strengthen youth mentoring relationships. Strategic priorities: programs and services: 1) build and sustain a statewide mentoring partner network. 2) design and implement new program innovations (tools/products) based on quality standards in the pursuit of quality outcomes. 3)expand delivery of mpm services to multi-state region. Policy: reinvest resources to strengthen public policy systems and strategies in support of mentoring expansion. Visibility: working from a finalized agency strategic branding plan, launch all external marketing and branding communication strategies. Sustainability: 1) create and institutionalize a mpm specific strategic revenue business plan. 2) strengthen private investments within the broader mentoring field.
Programs: Mentor training institute:the mentoring partnership of minnesota's (mpm) training institute offers technical assistance and training support as programs start, maintain and sustain quality mentoring initiatives. Mpm provides opportunities for mentor programs, workplaces, professional associations, and education, government and faith institutions to gain the support and resources that they need to provide quality mentors for more young people and to enhance the mentoring experience for all. In addition, mpm offers workshops to prepare both mentors and mentees to make the most of their mentoring relationships. Since 1995, mpm has been the premiere training resource in the midwest. Highlights for the mpm training institute in 2014 include: -building blocks for a quality mentoring relationship - provided tools and information to create and maintain effective youth mentoring relationships. The elements of effective practice for mentoring(tm), the industry's nationally accepted best practice standards, is the guide. Attended by over 200 organizations starting or improving a mentoring program, new program staff, and americorps members. -the impact exchange - the impact exchange was a new monthly offering that affords an inclusive space for conversation within the mentoring community about issues of race, class, and privilege in our communities and programs. -caffeinate and concentrate - caffeinate and concentrate was a free opportunity for program staff from all types of programs at any level of expertise to come to an open space and dedicate work time towards specific projects that address current program needs. -screening applicants for effectiveness (safe) - safe was a new training opportunity that includes the latest in child molestation research, wisdom from decades of experience with screening volunteers, and recommendations from leading experts on child exploitation. -training quality mentors - helps develop quality mentor training. -building blocks for quality mentoring relationships - this training included strategies and core competencies to ensure success in creating and maintaining youth mentoring relationships from recruitment to closure. The elements of effective practice for mentoring(tm), the industry's nationally accepted best practice standards, is used as the guide. Intended for new mentor program staff, americorps, and those interested in starting a mentoring program. -breaking barriers: understanding and supporting survival based youth - this new training provided ideas on how program staff of any level can create a supportive environment for survival-based youth to develop the cognitive capacity for self-regulation.
annual minnesota mentoring conference:mpm's annual mentoring conference continues to be the largest mentoring conference in the upper midwest. Our conference is attended by mentoring practitioners and funders from minnesota and its contiguous states. In 2014 approximately 100 participants attended "going the distance".
quality mentoring assessment path (qmap): mpm's interactive qmap tool includes 99 best practice standards and is based on the industry's gold standards, the elements of effective practice for mentoring (eep). The qmap helps mentoring programs identify strengths and weaknesses in program management, operations and evaluation. The result of each assessment is an improvement and innovation plan that can be used by programs to build quality practices that ultimately have a more positive effect on mentors and mentees.
