Mission: It is our mission to serve as an advocate for adults and children in the Northern Virginia area. Heart of Gold Foundation is structured to educate, mentor, and support those that battle with Sickle Cell Disease
Results: -started new support groups (Mothers Against The Prevention of Sickle S(c)ELL. - made numerous PSA's - working with hospitals to start a Young Adult transition program -developed pain management cards, that travel wherever you are in an attempt to further open the dialogue for the correct medication for each person. -writing letters to congress,to finally have the Sickle Cell initiative taken seriously - encouraging everyone to save the date for September (Sickle Cell Awareness Month)
Target demographics: Those individuals that battle with Sickle Cell Disease.

Geographic areas served: Northern Virginia ( Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Springfield and Prince William County)
Programs: Online support groups for Mothers, Teen Suport Group, help with transitioning from Pediatric Care to Adult Care, steps to get back into get well mode And on how to have a healthy & successful dating relationship. Lastly, we'll show you the best ways to advocate for yourself.
