Mission: The grand rapids red project is dedicated to improving health, reducing risk and preventing hiv by empowering individuals to make positive changes in their lives and their communities.
Programs: Hiv programs include prevention and testing supplies. Grrp offers free and confidential rapid hiv testing by qualified counselors at locations throughout grand rapids. In 2017, the organization tested 643 individuals. The clean works program offers a needle exchange to prevent the spread of hiv and other infections through used needles; 469,906 needles were exchanged in 2017. This program has reduced the spread of hiv by needles from 25% to 10%. 87 people used the medical case management services in 2017. This is offered free and includes advocating and coordinating medical care, education and referrals to community resources. Peer support groups meet monthly to offer support and education for people to grow and heal in a supportive environment. 135 clients took advantage of this service.
the grand rapids red project also offers programs for recovery from drug abuse and nicotine use. Medication and training are available to families and friends of individuals who may be at risk for opioid overdose. Grrp trained 3,435 individuals. A tobacco reduction program encouraged 25 individuals through education and counseling.
