The Children’s Hour NEVER disappoints and restores people’s faith in humanity and our future by highlighting the insights of amazing young leaders in New Mexico! To say The Children’s Hour provides education and community service would be a total understatement! The Children’s Hour knows how to #liftupNM

Even not having kids, I listen to this show every week. I learn so much about civics, science, art and culture. And... the music is fantastic! The best radio show I know of.

The Children’s Hour, Inc. is a great non-profit which provides education with participation and entertainment for kids that is fun for grown-ups, too. The educational components cover science, civics, culture and more, with music and humor thrown in. The program provides meaningful participation to children, who get to ask their own questions and do their own interviews, even with the Governor!

I've been listening to The Childrens Hour for many years. I've 'appeared' on the show once or twice, brought my kids to live events and appreciate the value Katie and the team bring to the kids they work with, communities they're in, and their radio listening audience as a whole.
I'm not sure if I can pinpoint the special value they bring, but a few things come to mind:
First, they know, believe and act on the fact that kids are smart. Instead of TEACHING, they don't talk down to kids, but rather encourage kids natural inquisitiveness to lead the way.
Second, they like to have fun. Some shows don't seem to get that learning and spending time with others should be enjoyed. Maybe it's dorky sometimes, but again, kids lead the way.
Finally, they're family friendly too. They recognize that whether it's on the radio, online or in-person these shows are often best as a family experience. By providing music and other fun, and science and other topics that adults can learn from too, they create a regular space where parents and kids can enjoy and learn together.
I'm especially glad that The Childrens Hour is now available far beyond Albuquerque, so that other communities, families and kids can experience this too.

The Children’s Hour is always a high point in our week. The program shows my girls that kids can matter and have a voice in societal contexts beyond school and family. It puts the important themes of our time in terms they can understand and in a communal conversation, expanding their world and empowering them to participate in our global community.

I’ve been listening to the Children’s Hour ever since I was really little. There have been a lot of really cool topics talked about on the show! Everything from the history of our planet to how our government works. There really is something here for all sorts of people! And the music choices… Are amazing!
I’ve been a kid on the show for a little while now . It is taught me a lot of really cool and valuable things. Public speaking, audio recording, how do use scripts, and so much more. Each show is more ambitious than the last, and it keeps on getting better! I feel so lucky to be a part of it and to see it grow!
Even for older listeners there is something of value. Not only do they get to hear the opinions of us youths but you get to hear things from a more cheerful point of view than your every day news channel and/or podcast.
In my personal opinion, you can’t go wrong listening to The Children’s Hour!

My kids - and whole family- have loved the Children’s Hour for years. When they volunteered to help produce the shows a few years back, they got to learn and share so many great things, and really got to experience some wonderful opportunities. How many kids get to interview the mayor, governor, senator, famous artists, scientists, authors, musicians, even astronauts?! So grateful for all that the Children’s Hour does for young people - and the whole community really!

The Children's Hour is informative, not only for kids, but for adults. They engage and promote interesting conversations about the world around us. It's great to hear curiosity of children being vocalized.

When I moved to ABQ a little more than a year ago, I saw that Congresswoman Deb Haaland was to be their featured guest. What could be better than checking out a public library, featuring a kids' public radio program, and a stellar representative of New Mexico? Fabulous way to start a Saturday morning and my adventures in New Mexico.

My kids love listening to The Children's Hour! It was amazing when we could see live recordings pre-covid!
I'd be lying if I didn't say I learn something each week too!

I am a new board member but have listened to the Children's Hour for many years. As an elementary teacher and mother of 3 girls I have always appreciated the show for providing children the opportunity to participate in the many aspects of producing a radio show, especially with the interviews they conduct. The choice of weekly topics is wide ranging and usually highlights experts who can answer questions posed by the children.

I've been listening to The Children's Hour on KUNM for many years. The show combines an eclectic mix of kid-friendly music, live performances, and special guests around a different educational topic every week. Katie Stone, the producer and host, brings in children of all ages to participate in the show. They learn the art and science of radio production while gaining confidence as they perform live, on the air, to thousands of listeners. I've had the pleasure of seeing the show produced live, both in studio and in the community, and it is amazing to watch how Katie orchestrates a group of kids to produce a live show while she runs the boards, interviews guests, and responds to questions sent in by listeners. The topics, themes, and music appeal to kids and adults alike, making it a great way for parents to share time with their kids. I support The Children's Hour and its mission to provide quality, educational programming for kids, and I'd like to see it grow to reach a nationwide audience. All money raised by the organization goes into programming and equipment needed to produce the show.

We produce 52 public radio programs for and with kids each year, and include children in all aspects of the production. We train kids on our crew in broadcasting skills from field recording to live engineering, hosting, interviewing, public speaking and more. The Children's Hour is now nationally syndicated and the voices of New Mexican children are reaching kids across the country. The show tackles topics that aren't covered fully (or at all) in New Mexico schools, with four focus areas: civics, STEAM, culture, and performance. You'll hear kids on stage performing, sharing their expertise, or interviewing elected officials and cultural educators. The show has a volunteer pool of over 30 children. Plus, the program partners with teachers in local Title 1 designated schools (high poverty) to build theme based radio shows from inside classrooms across New Mexico. The program hosts dozens of live public broadcasts from venues like libraries, museums, cultural centers, laboratories, parks and more. The goal is to reach kids where they are at and provide family friendly, educational entertainment, then bring that to a national audience through syndication and podcasts. An institution on KUNM-fm Saturday mornings at 9am, The Children's Hour can now be heard nationwide or on our podcasts. New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has called The Children's Hour "an icon of New Mexico programming invaluable to the communities" we serve.
