CCD ‘s mission:to bring dance to everyone, no matter their ability to pay. Scholarships are available to help pay for classes. Outreach to area schools, bringing dance to all the children. Lessons in empowerment, in life’s lessons, to not give up, to be the best you can be, dance is not just art.

Perhaps the dance classes for the “specials” are the best. Whether physically developmentally, or psychologically challenged Dario’s kids grow and prosper. Many are mainstreamed, others supported where they are. Everyone can dance. Everyone can grow through dance. Dario says he “loves his job!”

CCD also is the home to many of the areas’s Dance companies. Dance performances for students or fledgling companies, show dance is art.

Amazing place. A mission to make the world a better place through dance.

BUT CCD IS HURTING! Too much outreach. Too much open door. Not enough full paying dancers. Not enough fundraising. Without more community support, CCD will be no more. What a loss to the community that will be.

What's amazing to me about The Center for Contemporary Dance is the fact that they open up a new and artistic world to all their students, regardless of age, ability, etc. Dario is an inspiration, and has changed my daughter's views of her own abilities and confidence levels. I can safely say that she now has a lifelong appreciation of dance!

This organization is committed to the community. They perform out reach to the homeless, and underserved schools. It is through both classes and performances they make a difference. At the studio are students from all communities and backgrounds. They are learning dance at all levels. Dance is art so there are performances for all, beginners to advanced dancers. Scholarships are available for students who need help paying for classes.

But what makes me so proud, are their classes for those with Down syndrome, those with cystic fibrosis, and those with other movement disorders. Dario Moore is an extraordinary teacher who addresses life lessons while teaching dance. He uses dance to transform his students..

The community is made better by this organization. It is an honor to be associated with them.

I am a choreographer and dancer producing work with my own dance company, formerly based in NYC. When I first moved to Orlando, I was looking for a home for my creative dance work. I was hoping to find a place that is open, inviting, and supportive of dance as an artform, as well as hoping to find a community of dance. CCD has met and exceeded that aspiration in so many ways. Not only do they serve the independent artist like myself; they also serve under-served populations; they provide high quality training for children, youth and adults in dance (and theater) education; their teachers, choreographers and resident artists are exceptional; they provide a supportive environment for creative expression; they serve the greater Orlando area by providing high quality artistic work; and they create a welcoming community of dance lovers.

I'm a long time resident of Orange County and now Seminole County, having worked in both the private and public health sectors since 1988. I've had the privilege and pleasure of attending many dance concerts/events at CCD and knowing the founders as well as others in the dance community of Central Florida. The work that CCD does for the arts, aspiring artists and the community is wonderful! It is critical that this organization continue to get support for all its current and future endeavors given the significant contributions it has made over the years.

The instructors at the Center for Contemporary Dance are very engaging. You can tell they love children and really have a passion for dance that they want to share. This organization has come out to our elementary school and taught dance to large classes once or twice a year, and the students love every minute of it! Each time they teach, the students learn something about dance, it's history, or cultural expression through dance. As they dance, students learn a little technique, participate in a little fitness, while immersing themselves in the fun and enjoying the chance for self expression.

The Center for Contemporary Dance is an impeccable dance school that provides an excellent dance education. The teachers are all well respected professionals in the dance world and the standards are very high. We have been extremely happy at CCD since my daughter started there almost one year ago. We have seen a tremendous growth in her abilities and confidence and most of all she enjoys dancing there. The place is very well run, schedules are available at the beginning of the year and changes are communicated in a timely manner.

Since my child has been going to the The Center For Contemporary Dance Inc it has been like a breath of fresh air. Little did I know that there was a dance school that not only teach the children ballet, but also make sure that they learn the language of ballet. The staff is not only great, they are also patient towards the children and the parents. Taking the time out to answer each question that we may have. They are genuinely concerned about the progress of the children.

I have been overwhelmed at the wonderful support and care for my son with special needs. I am a single parent living on a teachers income. The classes are made to be very affordable and he dances in the recitals. He was invited to dance with other dancers at the studio for a special holiday dance. Not only has dance helped his balance and gross motor skills, but he has made friends with not only fellow dance class members but other students at the dance studio. The CCD is an inclusive extended family for Jordan and me. The instructor, Dario Moore takes a special interest in each and every student. He has noticed that the contractures in my son's hands are not improving but getting worse during puberty and has offered wonderful suggestions. Craig, who runs the studio is always kind, helpful and cares about each and every student as well as each and every parent. Dario and Craig are a wonderful duo. I am so thankful for the Center for Contemporary Dance. Jeannie Holman, Dance Parent

I have loved every event that I have attend at Center for Contemporary Dance Inc and their performances in the community. They offer opportunities for the less fortunate and those with special needs as well. When they performed an African ballet last December the children, teens, pre-professionals, professionals and special needs group all got to perform. The choreography was creative and depicted the movement of each group of animals in a way that enticed the audience and used the skills of the dancers to their advantage. I hope to attend again this year to their expanded version. Plus the performance was age appropriate for the family.

This center for dance is a true gem in our community. They live by the philosophy that everyone can experience the magic of dance. The work that they do in the Central Florida area with children and adults in need is amazing. However it is the combination of the high level of professional dance that they also accomplish with all the dancers, that is truly amazing. Instead of just being a training facility for the best and most talented (which they are) they take the time to help all their students, despite obstacles, rise up to be the best and most professional dancers that they can be. They are doing more than dance at the Center for Contemporary Dance, they are creating people with futures and pride in themselves! I recommend that anyone who has a chance to witness these dancers in action should take that opportunity (or join in yourselves).

The center for contemporary dance has done so much for me. When I came to them I was very unsure of what I wanted. They gave me direction and a path to follow while I still figure out where my life will lead me. They accept all ages( thank god!!) and they have a level for every dancer whether your a beginner or an advanced dancer. They will push you beyond what you can do but they will challenge you and will encourage you to do more than what you think( in your mind) you can do. It's a great place for parents to bring their kids to if their child exhibit interests in dance. In the short time I've been here not only have I grown as a dancer I've seen other dancers; both young and old , beginner and advanced; grow in strength and in professionalism.

The Center for Contemporary Dance (CCD) of Winter Park, FL offers a plethora of opportunities and exposure to children, youth and adults in the performing arts. CCD is a dance school of exceptional quality and high standards requiring only the best from each of its students. I became familiar with CCD a few years back when my granddaughter earned the opportunity to dance with the company as an apprentice. She first attended CCD to learn the Horton Technique in dance. Her experiences while taking that class prompted her desire to return again and again. She performed in "Sacred Slave Stories" where she not only gained an appreciation for history but where she learned how to tell a story through movement. I cannot applaud the Center for Contemporary enough. This is a non-profit that exceeds the expectations of many and one that provides a community service par excellence.

As a "dance grandmom" and a retired elementary school principal, I attended many of the performances that were held at Title I schools throughout Orange County, FL. Students at these schools rarely get the opportunity to learn of and to enjoy performing arts and especially through dance. Live performances of any kind are a first for most of them. The students were initially in awe and then totally engaged once the performance started. I realized then, that CCD offered a service to these students that they would remember for a life time.

CCD is a wonderful fit for our family— with their large menu of class offerings they are able to cater to the specific needs of my children-- one, who is a recreational dancer and the other more serious minded. The kiddos adore the faculty and consider the studio lobby their ‘living room’. We truly value the stellar dance education they are receiving and the studios’ holistic teaching approach of ‘person, artist, dancer.'

I am a teacher at Trinity Preparatory School. Dario comes over to my Comparative Religions class and teaches the students about African Dance - history, symbols, patterns and movement. He does more than just teach theory and dance. The students have amazing conversations about the roles of members of tribes in their society and then transfer that to understanding their personal importance/worth and the role they play and will play in society. Dario reads the students and reaches them where they are. I never cease to be amazed at the quality and depth of his teaching. I am honored to hand over my classes to him.

An example of how his lessons impact students: This summer I gave an assignment to the class to come up with a way to teach the basic stories of Judaism. They could use any medium they wanted (including electronic media). I had two male students (who are not dancers and until this class had never danced) choreograph a dance to tell the story of Judaism. They then taught the class the dance. Those students will never forget that lesson!

Thank You!

Edited: I apologize that my original candid statement was taken in a way I did not intend. The CCD has increased its prices, but the teachers are worth it if you are are able to invest or budget. I would LOVE to take more at this quality studio, but can't afford to. I will continue to take 1 hr. class--Contemporary Dance at CCD for $70 a month & it's a good deal. In the future, I would may take an 1 hr. course in ballet. I stand corrected by the original response. Thank you CCD for your care to respond & nice to hear there are hour sessions in ballet. I don't mean to offend the organization or be critical. The classes are still worth the money & I am glad to hear most welcome the changes.

Whether a review is positive or not, we take all comments seriously. We welcome the opportunity to respond to your opinion. We are very proud of our dance center and its exceptional standards. The recent tuition increase is reflective of the value of our offerings; our new pricing structure is comparable with industry standards for high-quality dance centers across the nation. While we realize other local dance centers charge less per class, our detailed research also shows that the level of service offered by our faculty and staff exceeds what is typically found in Central Florida, including some of the larger schools. We believe in a very personal, customized level of student support based on the idea that every student matters; I'm sure you have experienced this in class, time and time again. Students pay for more than a standard dance class at CCD; they are investing in a faculty and curriculum that prioritizes the individual's progress--you, the person, matters to us. While I’m sure you will be met with competence at other dance centers, you will be guaranteed excellence at CCD. Here’s a few more facts that separate CCD from other dance centers: 1. Classes are conducted by mature, industry professionals with a degree in dance or a 10-year minimum in dance education. 2. All staff members are background-checked and certified in both first aid and CPR. 3. Classes are conducted in accordance with the National Standards for Dance Education with lesson plans and curriculum goals. 4. Year-end assessments include Meet the Faculty Day where questions are answered and class recommendation are received. 5. A culturally diverse environment that welcomes students of all backgrounds, ages, levels and abilities. 6. An attentive, professional administrative team available to assist guests during all teaching hours, every day. 7. A recognized Florida cultural organization with awards from the National Endowment for the Arts and United Arts of Central Florida. 8. Partner of the Orange County Arts Education Center with awards from the Florida Alliance for Arts Education. 9. Studio culture is not built on the personality of the directors, but upon the provision of high-quality experiences in dance education. 10. Pre-Professional and Residency Programs support the future of professional dance and provide opportunities for aspiring dancers. If you had brought your feedback to the administration, you would have discovered that there are actually several 1-hour ballet classes on the upcoming fall schedule. I’m sorry we didn't have a chance to make these recommendations for you, but we will be happy to do so at any time. We do understand that tough choices may be faced by some of our students in order to continue their studies at CCD. Thankfully the vast majority of our guests support the recent tuition increase because they understand the value of the organization’s services and far-reaching impact in our community. I hope there is a way for you to continue learning from a team dedicated to giving you their very best. We remain grateful for your review since it affords us an additional opportunity to underscore what we are about. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts! Best wishes, Craig W. This school is by far the best dance studio in all of Florida. The faculty is is amazing, the instructors all like family are constantly advising students in different ways they can become better both as a dancer and as an individual. I am a liturgical dance (praise dance for those that know the term) at a church. Be prepared to WORK HARD. It's sooo worth it. I have taken beginner lessons at other dance studios in central Florida & teachers were not breaking down the skills. My desire was to find a progressive school for an adult learner. I grew tired of the same jazz class or ballet basic for adults with the same old steps each week. At other schools, my growth felt stunted and/or I felt ignorant. The CCD teachers push me (in a good way). I love the ability to purchase class hours, pay as you go, or purchase a semester. I actually see other adults like me taking lessons too. Plus, all the teachers give the adult body proper warm up (my body is older and needs that greatly). The studio is a hidden away from the from the road, so give yourself extra time coming the first time. You will sweat and be sore if this is the first time dancing "hard core" in a while or ever. CCD does not play around. It seems to take the art of dance and teaching seriously no matter your age.

Every day it is my honor and privilege to teach the students at The Center for Contemporary Dance. A little over one year ago I found CCD online when I was searching for quality dance studios in the Orlando area. I was preparing to move from out of state, and I was nervous about finding my new dance home. From the very first time I entered CCD and spoke with Craig, I knew it was THE place for me. Through CCD I am able to teach a diverse group of students-- from ages two to forty and older. It is so rewarding to be able to teach and choreograph here. As one of the only studios in Orlando offering non-competitive dance training, we are able to focus our efforts on technical and artistic development. We also provide mentorship for our students who are preparing for college and beyond. What we do at CCD is more than just teaching dance steps-- we aim to enrich the lives of all our students and families through the art of dance. Through CCD I also have been able to continue my dance studies on a professional level so that I am constantly growing, challenging and advancing in my career. I have met a wealth of people at our school who refer to the center as "home" or "family." This lets me know we have something really special here in Winter Park. In addition to teaching Creative Movement, Ballet and Contemporary dance, I also have the unique experience of teaching dance for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This holds a special place in my heart because I have a family member who has Autism. It is both challenging and rewarding to serve this special needs population. We at CCD are community-oriented citizens who believe that dance is for EVERYONE, and we celebrate our diversity of shape, size, age, ethnicity and background. It's been my pleasure to continue learning and growing through this center as I teach, choreograph and perform within this great community.

The Center is such a wonderful place to dance and express yourself. I came to the studio 3 years ago for a summer intensive and although I was awfully nervous and afraid I wouldn't fit in, That changed as soon as I stepped into the studio and felt the warm embracing family of CCD. I improved my technique so much as well as learning more about myself in the context of dance and life in just three weeks! Since that summer, I have been attending the school full time and I love it, with every class I see improvement in an area I before had trouble with and over the years this has really cultivated my technique and overall love of dance. The Center offers many classes in different dance forms to help you really be the diverse dancer that you need to be in the ever changing dance scene of the world. Being in the Pre-Pro program has also helped me grow as an individual artist by doing solos, learning to choreograph and embrace my inner voice and image. All in all I would tell anyone and everyone to come to this studio. If not for the warm and insightful faculty, then for the amazing growth mentally, physically, and emotionally you will gain to help you with your life in dance and your life as it is.

My favorite part is that regardless of the age, shape, size, or background of the student, every single one has the opportunity to grow and does. The faculty members are inspiring and genuine when they teach students. They always go out of the way to help give any student the extra push he or she might need. It's an atmosphere unlike any other studio I've been to. It truly becomes a home away from home and a second family. I am so grateful to have stumbled into Center for Contemporary Dance. I'm a lifelong dance fan who finally in late adulthood and probably the worst shape of my life, decided to make a first venture into the dance world. I couldn't have found a more nourishing, nurturing, special place to take this journey. Craig, Dario, Jennia and Jere'...my very first teacher all have earned a special place in my heart. The studio, its leadership, and its faculty have changed my life and I will be forever thankful. My fellow students younger and older are encouraging, inspirational and beautiful inside and out. Don't get me wrong, although I have big love for these people, this hasn't been easy for me. Every class I am mentally and physically challenged; I am humbled and beyond sore, thinking I may actually die at any moment, but the feeling of accomplishment during the class or afterwards...even a micro-sized improvement, feels so much better than sitting on the sidelines my entire life. CCD has a wide range of classes and also hosts classes for students with special needs. The tuition is a good deal and there are frequent specials to take advantage of. The parking is convenient too.

The Center for Contemporary Dance is an incredible organization that has provided me, a beginner adult dancer, with the opportunity to bring to life a dream that hadn't otherwise been achievable. I grew up in an area that lacked access to programs and organizations that offered creative outlets such as music and dance. I remember being in the second grade and some members of a ballet school came down to my elementary school and hosted an event that offered student's an opportunity to dance. The stipulation was that only two students would be allowed into the program and would have to be bused from the south side to the north side of Milwaukee. I can remember very clearly feeling I had the day they announced the two students that were selected and my name wasn’t called. I knew at the moment, even at that age, that I'd lost a monumental opportunity. That ended that. There were no other programs available in the low income area I lived in. After that I didn't try to dance until I was 22 years old. Still I felt the drive to become a dancer and I knew that I was born to dance. I tried to dance in college and although the class description indicated that all beginners were welcome, arriving in the class and realizing that I was the only beginner made the experience a little bit difficult. Still, the drive was in me so I danced for that semester and I even did two performances. I remember being ignored in the class while I watched my teachers focus on the more developed and trained dancers. I stopped dancing for a few months after that but was I couldn’t avoid the passion in me to find a school that would help me, at 23 years of age, become a real dancer. My first ballet class at The Center for Dance changed my life. I'd never felt so encouraged and able than when I danced in Dario Moore's classroom. I've never felt that the moments that should have been embarrassing were anything but blocks that I could stand on and reach higher and higher until I reached a dream. The Center for Dance is about finding your soul and connection with your own emotions so that you can let it all spill out onto the dance floor. It is about technique and inspiration uniting to create a masterpiece. It is about the arts. The arts are being wiped away and replaced with technology and shiny things. We have forgotten that the most incredible creation we will ever own are our own bodies and The Center for Contemporary Dance has created an owner’s manual to help us understand it's most difficult and powerful capabilities.

This is my daughter's 5th year taking ballet, but her 3rd school. We are so pleased with CCD, she has learned far more about the technical aspects of ballet since beginning classes there, than in her entire dancing career! I love the fact that they are non-profit as well. Her instructor is so patient and everyone in the studio is friendly - whether you're a newbie or have attended for a while. Thank you to The Center for Contemporary Dance, Inc., for giving my daughter an opportunity to develop her skills in such an encouraging environment.

Dance was suggested to us as a creative outlet for our children. We struggled for quite a while looking for the right fit and somewhere we could afford. We are really happy to have found CCD.

We really appreciate the staff and the way they interact and encourage the children. They have a great way of showing the children they are expected to behave and yet do it in a loving and kind manner. It is obvious that they want the children to learn and will take the extra time to explain and demonstrate when a child doesn't catch on right away. The staff's love of dance and for the children is evident in the way they teach and interact with the children.

CCD is helping our children gain confidence in themselves. The diversity of the staff and students has also been wonderful for our children.

The performance that The Center for Contemporary Dance brought to our school was a great experience for our students and teachers. I appreciated the explaination of the different dance movements that the students would see- that helped them understand why the dancers were dancing these movements according to the story. It was evident through their faces during and after the presentation that our students were deeply engaged. I look forward to seeing CCD come back to our school in the future.

The Center for Contemporary Dance came to our Middle School, and share Sacred Slave Stories with our middle school students. The students were captivated by not only the dancing, but the stories they told. Students truly found the experience rewarding, and really appreciated the questions/answer session afterward with the Artistic Director/choreographer. Our students have not had a lot of exposure to the arts, and the Center for Contemporary Dance was gracious enough to travel all the way out to our school so we could impact the most students possible. This was most of our students first time ever seeing a live performance of dance, and they LOVED it!!

The Center For Contrmporary Dance Inc. came to my school and performed for my 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. The students were so engaged you could hear a pin drop. The performance helped our student bridge a gap between the printed story of slavery and the heavy emotion of slavery. Students today are very visual and this opened their eyes to a deeper level of understanding. The students had such deep questions after the performance. It was priceless!

I highly recommend continuing to fund this project as it not only teaches students historical information, but it exposes them to forms of art they have never seen or may never get to see on their own. Dear Sir/Madame:

Today, our school had the privilege of seeing The Sacred Slave Stories performed by the Center for Contemporary Dance. The performance was one of the most inspiring and emotional performances I have ever seen. The dancers were fabulous. The interpretation of the slave narratives was extremely beneficial for the students. There is no way that I could ever come close to teaching my students about slavery in such a meaningful way. The performance was thought-provoking. The question and answer session after the show was necessary and important since it gave the students the opportunity to ask questions and to share their thoughts.

The man who organized the performance for us today, Craig Johnson, was so easy to work with. He literally responded to my initial email in minutes and had us booked for the show within hours. The male dancer (I forget his name, I’m sorry) who opened and closed the show and did the question/answer sessions was fabulous. He had great control over the audience, which can be tough with 160 fifth graders. The dancers were remarkable! I could not take my eyes off of the children who danced! Absolutely fabulous!

I thought it was important to share this information with you since you are directly connected to the performance we saw today. I appreciate the opportunity you provided our students and teachers with today.

Thank you!

This was a great program to our fifth grade students. They seemed to understand what slavery was all about and enjoyed the dance aspect of the lesson. The program held their attention and offered plenty of opportuity for questions and ideas to be shared. They especially enjoyed the idea that children could perform as well. For this, they were able to relate more to the program.

I am a man rapidly approaching 60 years old, and have suffered multiple serious injuries over the course of my life, resulting in many corrective surgeries and courses of rehabilitation. These however had left me with many areas of chronic pain which I had accepted as being as permanent as the scars I had also collected. Then one Saturday morning I accompanied my wife to CCD to watch her in a stretch class given by Dario Moore. Thinking it may do me some good, the following Saturday I joined in.This led me to take a course of intensive and personalised 'one on one' sessions with Dario. His tutoring skill and expertise in muscle use and movement has transformed how I use my body. The severe aches and pains are gone or are receeding rapidly, and my posture and walk has changed and improved as I utilise the various techniques he has taught me. I am not now nor have I ever been a dancer, but I could not recommend this dance school more highly, using myself as an example of very positive results.

As an adult interested in dance it is often difficult to find a studio that caters to anyone over the age of 18 who is not pursuing a professional career in dance. I did a search on the internet and found the CCD. Not only did they cater to all ages but they offered African Dance which is hard to come by in this area. The instructors are tough but encouraging and the prices are affordable. I love being able to take real dance lessons at the age of 26, improve my technique and even venture out into other styles of dance. Before I found the CCD I thought my only outlet for dance would be an occasional Zumba or ballroom class but that is not the case. The CCD affords people of all ages and skill levels the opportunity to show case their talents via the Spring and Fall concerts. The Executive and Creative Directors also give students and teachers the opportunity to participate in productions beyond being on stage, offering a different perspective and a better understanding of what is required to have successful show. In addition to constantly evolving as a dancer I also have fun at the CCD.

Two summers ago, we were looking for a new dance studio for our children. We spent 3 years at a classical ballet school and the environment seemed to stifle our son's love of dance and creativity. Our daughter never seemed happy after class. A friend suggested we try the summer camp at CCD and we met Mr. Craig Johnson and Mr. Dario Moore. CCD welcomed my family with open and caring arms. Both of our children have grown by leaps and bounds in their technique and artistry. Their instructors push them, but only as far as they feel appropriate. We no longer feel like they are part of a machine. They are a part of something much greater and more fluid. Their roles change and they adapt readily. This is a skill most adults are unable to master and they are learning and applying it now. My husband and I feel the value of the service CCD provides is immeasurable. He started taking classes at CCD too. They have a formula that works and our wish is they will be able to continue their work for many years to come.

The atmosphere is non-competitive and encourages learning. They treat each person who enters the CCD with respect. The faculty is professional, but they will challenge you physically and mentally. CCD has demonstrated that it's a business in the aspect of it's commitment, consistency, and effective communication. The teachers at The Center for Contemporary Dance have taught her to love the process, even when it isn't easy right away, and to keep striving for her best. After a tough elementary ballet class, she told me, with a big grin on her face, "I'm not great at leaps on my left side yet, but I'll keep trying. My daughter transferred to CCD from a competition studio last summer after completing the Summer Intensives. We learned that she was behind her peers in "general technique" and excelled in "Artistry". She cried many nights during the first few weeks of the fall term, but she did not give up. She now attends class six (6) days a week and has excelled to become one of the top dancers in and above her age group. Her confidence has increased and she is now cheorographing her own works. My shy little girl is gone, woooo hoooo. She is a beautiful dancer with a strong point of view. Her latest work was motivated by "moving barriers and overcoming insecurities". She now articulate the history of dance. Define and demonstrate the various dance techniques. The FAILED the first written exam she was given during FALL 2011 and ACED the latest exam given SPRING 2012, scoring over 100% by correctly answering the extra credit questions. We love The Center for Contemporary Dance and plan on attending as long as we can. By the way my daughter is 10.

At the beginning of this year, my daughter was ready to stop taking dance lessons. She had not found a studio where she felt both challenged and at home. Since she began studying at CCD, dance has become her favorite activity. She is challenged and motivated. She has set dance goals for herself -- for the next few months, for high school, college, and beyond. The changes have been noticeable -- her dancing has improved, but so has her poise, her confidence, her strength, and her physique. She adores all of the faculty and is happy and comfortable with the other students. This has been a wonderful experience for her. I would highly recommend this studio to others.

This nonprofit dance organization does an incredible job bringing many forms of dance into the community in many different facets. The provide many different forms of dance in concert to watch and for young to old dancers to perform. I am a returning 'older' ballerina that hasn't been able to find the right place for me to dance until I discovered Center for Contemporary Dance. They have SO many different ages that are made to feel welcome with open arms. The CCD has so many different types and levels of classes that also gives more dancers opportunities to not only fit in, but to choose what style dance the dancer likes best. Being over 40 and little overweight, I was concerned about the above issues, my age & weight. The staff at CCD put me immediately at ease and I was able to focus on dancing instead of my insecurities. I felt from day one that I was welcome with open arms. As an older student I even have the opportunity to perform which I had given up on. Having the hope to possibly perform again gives me so much happiness! I am too busy now, but the dream of it gives me a skip in my step daily. I am so thankful that this organization is established in my area. The CCD definitely gives back to the community as well as enhancing it by just having its doors open to the very young and old as well as for the handicapped. I am sure the CCD is a shining star among non-profit organizations!

I have had the opportunity to work directly with both co-founders, Dario Moore (Artistic Director) and Craig Johnson (Executive Director), as well as to meet the students/parents who came through CCD's studio doors. Because CCD exists, lives are changed. Each year, CCD serves more than 6,000 people across 5 Central Florida counties. Since its inception, CCD has been involved in dozens of major projects and hundreds of smaller endeavors that engage underserved communities in the arts, and each year, CCD serves over 1,000 children from Title I public schools through performances, lectures/demonstrations and arts education workshops. Because of CCD and the tireless efforts of its Executive Director, Craig, the entire landscape of the arts in Central Florida has been changed. I have been a supporter of The Center for Contemporary Dance for the last six years by volunteering at performances, assisting with costumes, teaching art classes at the Center, and sharing the Center’s mission and philosophy with others. The Center for Contemporary Dance has one of the most successful, innovative, and committed dance and community outreach arts programs in our region. The focus of all their programs is transformation, inclusiveness, and collaboration. Mr. Moore and Mr. Johnson actively seek out and encourage artists from all the arts to connect with a wide array of community organizations to develop the incredible potential the arts have to empower, unite and restore communities and individuals. The Center for Contemporary Dance believes that the arts can change people, the community, and the world. Dario Moore and Craig Johnson’s passion and commitment to this philosophy can be seen at every rehearsal, performance, or casual meeting. Creativity is the process of transformation and The Center for Contemporary Dance is a haven where people from all disciplines can join together to be part of that process -- and as Dario Moore has said, “have a profound and positive impact on the on the world in which they live.”

"Journal your frustrations in dance in order to confront and eradicate distractions." I heard Executive Director, Craig W. Johnson, say these words to a beautiful bunch of Pre-Professional Students at the Center for Contemporary Dance. It inspired me to begin my own journal and overtime I've realized how important journalling is to a person's growth and development. Artistic Director, Dario J. Moore, reiterates the importance of this concept during his classes, enforcing an intellectual stimulant that's necessary for a dancer's prosperity in the arts arena. Since the advent of my connection with CCD I have encountered caring, loving, spirited personalities that have influenced the way that I presently perceive the world. Looking back, I feel like I've grown 10 years from the place I started when I first joined the CCD family. My coming to CCD was not only the opportunity of a lifetime, but I believe ordained by God for the purpose He has put on my life - purpose that CCD will definitely help you find. He was a hard working performing and there were many numerous positive attributes that he absorbed that he is applying in running his Arts organization! He comes from a tradition of artistry that is equipped with influences from all the major schools of thought in the dance world, i.e.; Classical and Contemporary Ballet, Modern, Jazz and fusion work as well. The training bases range from School of American Ballet, Dance Theater of Harlem and the Juilliard School to the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center as well. Its good to see what kind of a positive influence he is having on his community and I wish him and his colleagues well in their future endeavors!

My daughter is an elementary ballet student at CCD. We first came in for a free class during Arts Fest and, when we returned a few months later to sign up for classes, the person working the desk welcomed us back and called us both by name. I knew then that this was a special place that would care for my daughter's individual needs.

I love sitting in on classes now and then. The young students clearly adore their teachers, but the teachers don't give empty praise. They are kind but firm and expect every student to do her or his best. My daughter is learning to express herself, but she's also learning discipline and the value of hard practice. I love that she's learning these lessons in a diverse, welcoming and nurturing environment.

My daughter have been dancing for 10 years (since age 4), she lives to dance, so she was devasted when I told her I could not afford dance classes anymore, and had to pull her from her Dance School because I lost my job. My Good friend told me about CCD, her daughter attend and invite us to a recital. We were very impress, Craig and Dario gave my daughter an audition and like her, but I could not afford the tuition, so she couldn't attend. For weeks she came home from school and lock herself in her room, it really hurts me to see her this way. Then Craig call and offered her a scholarship, she came home sore and hurting from her first dance class, but happy. She gave me a big hug, told me she love me and thank me for butting her back in a Dance School. The THANKS goes to CCD and the Give Kids the Art Scholarship Program, for bringing my happy dancer back to life. Both directors Craig and Dario have played a vital role in the development of my daughter's artistic development. They work more as mentors than simply teachers. They show concern about her personal growth as an individual as well as a dancer. I have received emails following up on observations during class as well as personal one on one conversations on what they would like to incorporate in her curriculum to take her to the next level. My daughter has gone to other schools but none has EVER given the personal touch that I've received at The Center. From my first contact with Craig at Center for Contemporary Dance, I knew this was the place for my daughter to further her dance studies. Craig spent about 20 minutes on the phone with me making sure I understood how they work and getting my daughter set up for her first class. It's obvious that Craig and the instructors at CCD do it for the love of dance and the children and not for the money. This was recently proven again when I went through a rough time and was unsure if my daughter would be able to attend classes, when I informed Craig that my daughter may have to miss some classes, he promptly responded with a scholarship for her for 10 classes. A company that is driven by profits and not the love of the sport would have said they were sorry to hear that and they'll see us when we have the money again; not CCD. I am so thankful for CCD and their wonderful staff. My daughter wakes up every morning asking if it's 'dance day!' Thank you for giving my daughter something to look forward to every week!

I happen to be a young dance student at a performing arts school in which Mr.Dario Moore is a continuous Guest Artist that visits and offers the best master classes you will ever take. Since freshman year I have always looked forward for his classes at my school because in his class I can actually enjoy dancing. Due to the fact that at the end of every school year I would be ready to end my career as a dance student until I would take that one class that would transform my whole idea of dance, I persuaded my father to take me to the Center for Contemporary Dance this summer. We walked in, and were nicely greeted by Mr.Craig who graciously took the time to discuss my goals concerning dance and how he and the faculty are willing to help. This rarely/never happens at quality dance institutions. I've never had the combination of quality dance training and the care and support that you receive at the center. The Center for Contemporary dance is over all a quantitative as well as qualitative place. There are many programs out there today that try to install good morals and ideals, in the youth of today, before they enter society. Based upon my 3 weeks a the Center this summer I have learned just as much about being a better person than dance and fitness. I've been invited to many prestigious dance academies and programs around America but none of those programs will ever compare to what My family and I received at The Center for Contemporary Dance this summer.

Craig Johnson is incredibly professional and organized. He is ALWAYS efficient with communications and information about the studio. All aspects of The Center are FIVE STAR! We don't feel like clients, we feel like family. A truly professional studio that is fun, educational, and challenging.

I am a parent of a dance student and a student myself. I absolutely love the Center for Contemporary Dance. It is through their philosophy of dance education, educating the dance student through the artisitc process, that I have seen my daughter become more confident, focused and developing a sense of self. For myself, the center has re-energized my love for the art of dance and has encouraged me to continue my exploration of the art form through the choreographic process.

My experience at Center for Contemporary Dance has been a highlight of my life. Dario Moore has a true gift in Dance. His school provides opportunity to someone like me who thought it was too late to learn how to dance like a professional. Yes, the quality of dance here is very professional. I am 47 and have attended now this wonderful school for two years. I was introduced to it by the fact that Dario was offering his talent at my church by dancing on Pentecost Sunday about the Holy Spirit. I knew I wanted to go where he was. His love for dance was genuine and passionate. I wanted to dance like that. I signed up last semester for all the classes you want for a set fee. I went almost everyday except Sunday. Each and every time I was learning something new and exciting. The people there like Craig Johnson and Dario Moore treat you like family. To them, we are family. That has meant the world to me, too. Central Florida has a treasure right here in Dance and I hope that the school is always successful because it truly blesses our community. I also know they are always reaching out to the community doing lots of things to help it. All the staff there are fantastic teachers and dancers and I consider it an honor to be a part of The Center for Contempory Dance.

My experience with The Center for Contemporary Dance has been completely positive. They are welcoming and passionate about their mission in the community and their dance. I actually hired them to present a professional Alvin Ailey modern dance show for a convention that booked through my company and they were amazing. It was exciting to watch them and interact with them at the event. I've additionally sent people to their studio and they have reported back how impressed they were at how they were treated. They said it was clear that the staff cared about them and the children showed a renewed spark of interest in their dance that hadn't been there before. They are very open and willing to embrace other dance professionals in the community and offer opportunities when they arise.

I came to know The Center for Contemporary Dance last year through an excellent performance of Colours of Courage celebrating Black History. The performance was artistic, creative and professionally presented. More impressive than the show was the time given by the Cast of performers after the show to talk with the individuals and engage the audience in meaningful dialogue. I followed up this experience with some research into the organization, and now my daughter is a student at the Center. She has made tremendous progress and shows great improvement in her dance form and ability. I am most impressed with the attitude and excitement she now shows for her dance instruction and practices. The Center has been most helpful in providing guidance and support to structure the right dance classes and instruction to nurture my childs growth. My personal encounters with the staff and teachers is always respectful. It is a joy working with this organization which brings professional level cultural experiences to our community.

Just connecting with dance after many years, I was attending another dance studio for adult hip-hop and a friend of mine came in and said that he had just finished his tap class. My ears perked up and I had to know where he was taking! (good tap classes are hard to find). He said it was just down the street at the Center for Contemporary Dance. I looked it up online, printed the class schedule and called the center immediately. I talked to Craig, my new buddy, and he was so friendly and welcoming that I knew I had found the right place to continue what I love the most, TAP! Over the past year, I have explored many other genres of dance at the Center including ballet, contemporary, modern, a ballet workout class, a stretch and flex class and I LOVE their hip-hop. So I just go there for everything now! It has been the one thing that I find myself thinking about all day and anticipating for myself. Going to the Center allows me to clear my mind and doesn't allow me to think of anything else. I physically feel leaner, stronger and more graceful in every way. I feel supported and loved there and never judged; always encouraged. Thank you, Craig and Dario and all of the fabulous teachers at the Center for helping me find the fun and reward in dancing; for pushing me to always be my best and excepting me when I'm not! :)

I am the Fine Arts chair at a Trinity Prep School in Winter Park, Florida. We are located right down the road from The Center for Contemporary Dance. Over the years of knowing and working with Craig and Dario, I have been both impressed by their artistic vision and blown away by the outreach that they do in the community. I also work with a group called the Jeremiah Project; it is an arts based program that targets at risk youth. While working with a local Boys and Girls club I met a young man who demonstrated talent and desire to learn to dance. I contacted Dario immediately, knowing that he would be someone who would find the means to scholarship this young man so that he could fulfill his dream of becoming a choreographer.

My family has been going to The Center for Contemporary Dance for nine months. We take the following classes every week: Creative Movement on Thursdays and Hip-Hop on Saturdays. TCFCD has become a part of our family life and we enjoy so many positive benefits from our association with them. The primary benefit has come from the absolute genius of Dario Moore in his work with children. He is a gifted communicator and takes what could be simple dance class to a whole new level. My children have learned a great deal about themselves and their impact on others through interacting with Dario. My daughter takes the Creative Movement class on Thursdays, and is one of about 10 little girls ages 5-9 who have grown each week as Mr. Moore leads them through group sharing activities and individual discipline exercises, all while teaching them the language and techniques of dance. He corrects the children as needed and praises them when the deserve it. It does not seem like one hour a week is much, but after nine months, the cummulative impact this has had on my daughter's social awareness is enormous. My son and I take Hip-Hop class together on Saturdays with Miss Nicki. I am not very graceful, and at first, I hated going (because I can't dance). But, Nicki has made a completely comfortable environment where I have never felt judged or ridiculous. At the age of 37, I have learned how to better control my body through movement and my son has seen his mother enjoy exercise. I love going now, and the time with my son is priceless. I don't know of any other place where a mom and young son can dance Hip-Hop together and actually learn without feeling patronized. It is a wonderful atmosphere. Every time we walk through the door, we see Craig Johnson, the Center's Executive Director. Craig has always been incredibly patient as we worked through deciding which classes were right for us. He also acts as a great source of information, letting us know about area and Center events that may interest our family. We have attended several of these events and have never been disappointed. He makes it very easy to communicate with the Center whenever we have a question. When he is not out in the community on behalf of the Center, he is at the Center. The same can be said for Dario. I don't know when they sleep or how they sustain the passion they have for bringing the arts to Central Florida, but thank God they do. We have tried so many outlets for our children, only to be disappointed time and time again. With TCFCD, I am thrilled to see them become the best people they are capable of being. In short, TCFCD is welcoming and genuine. Not only has my family felt welcome, but I have seen each and every person who has walked through their door embraced and encouraged to express who they are in an environment that honestly cares about the arts. Craig and Dario's dedication to the community is visible in the numerous times they are working outside of the Center (Apopka, Osceola). Because of our involvement with the Center, my family has a found interest in the performing arts which will last through my children's adult lives.

For me, the Center has provided a warm, diverse, inclusive community where I and my family can explore and learn – about other cultures, about dance, about the creative process and about history. We regularly take their dance classes that have increased our confidence and our overall health and fitness levels. The dance program has enabled us to explore a variety of instructors – and all skill levels are welcomed and respected. We have enjoyed and treasured a range of outstanding dance performances, including performances by students and emerging artists, performances focused on an individual choreographer (e.g., Katherine Dunham), and performances celebrating stories (e.g., Makulu and Colors of Courage). The Center works tirelessly to reach out to young audiences, underrepresented populations and our public schools through their arts education programs.

The Center has numerous programs and in house dance companies that help bring the arts into the community and raise awareness about a variety of issues, but the thing that stands out to me the most is the atmosphere they create. Upon deciding to return to dance after a 12 year hiatus after having danced at various schools for over 10 years, my main concern about returning was the common attitude present in most schools and companies. They tend to be harsh, elitist and unsupportive. To my relief and great surprise, the Center is none of these things. Quite the opposite, it is comprised of a group of people who exhibit an unparalleled level of care and support, both within the realm of dance and in daily life. On one particularly stressful day, I attended a class at the Center after work. As I walked out of the class feeling relaxed and encouraged, the Artistic Director, Dario Moore, asked me how I was doing. I let out a big sign of relief and told him that I felt much better and that class was just what I needed. He replied, "That's why we're here." I didn't need his words to tell me that the mission that they live every day is to be supportive and enrich people's lives; it's something you experience every time you walk through the door or attend a performance. It's undeniable- it's why they're there.

I have had a wonderful experience with the Center and have watched them contribute to the communities in Volusia, Seminole and Osceola counties. I take classes five days a week and participate on a volunteer basis as needed. This association with this wonderful non-profit organization and its dynamic leaders, Dario J. Moore and Craig W. Johnson is an inspiration in my life and to so many young people participating in the programs at the Center.

Our dance company, Yow Dance, recently began the application process for residency at The Center for Contemporary Dance. Long before this we were well aware of both Craig Johnson and Dario Moore, the two key role players at "The Center". Their reputation in our community is well known, not only in the dance community, but in the art and philanthropy communities especially, as is evidenced by the broad support they get from the well respected organization United Arts. As I have gotten to know the two gentlemen better, have seen them in action, and can now see first hand how their commitment to dance and the city of Orlando is most directly reflected by The Center for Contemporary Dance, I can see the dramatic impact on our community. Their mission to Produce, Encourage, Cultivate, and Reach is firmly in place and making a difference. Just last week I saw a performance put on by one of the companies that partner with The Center and can see with clarity that the dance organizations that call The Center home are well selected to carry forward the mission even more!
