Mission: To bring the joys and benefits of learning music to the residents of hampton roads regardless of ability to pay.
Programs: Instruction: the academy provides individual instruction to children and adults with one-on-one lessons. In the last school year, we awarded 43,000 in scholarships, placed 12 donated pianos in the homes of scholarship students and started a voice scholarship program for norfolk public schools students. Over the fiscal year, the academy taught nearly 5,000 hours of private music lessons.
outreach: the academy of music presented 50 outreach events to the community and provided music instruction to 500 students through group outreach programs. These programs include the violin program at park view elementary school in portsmouth, va, the park place school violin program in norfolk, and other programs to nursing homes, senior centers and neighborhood centers.
