Causes: Centers to Support the Independence of Specific Populations, Human Services
Mission: Texas one voice is a non-profit, non-partisan policy collaborative comprised of 100+ non-profit and public agencies who minister to the health and human needs of houstonians and who come together to advocate for policies & programs that improve individual, family and community health and wellbeing.
Programs: In 2016, texas one voice focused on three priority areas: reform of an overwhelmed child welfare system, behavioral health equity & access to healthcare. By convening houston-area workgroups to building community consensus around common-sense solutions and by providing leadership to local, regional & state coalitions, one voice was able to win key reforms. For example, one voice's efforts led to the doubling of the small, one-time stipends given to grandparents who step up to raise children in cps custody. In 2016, one voice hosted &/or organized 50+ issue forums, advocacy trainings & educational events to equip stakeholders & policymakers to envision policy alternatives and to make common-sense changes.
