Mission: Ten thousand villages creates opportunities for artisans in developing countries to earn income by bringing their products and stories to our markets through long-term fair trading relationships. Our vision is that one day all artisans in developing countries will earn a fair wage, be treated with dignity and respect and be able to live a life of quality.
Programs: Ten thousand villages overland park, inc has only one program toward fulfilling its mission which is creating jobs for artisans in developing countries by selling their goods and telling their stories of fair trade (as opposed to free trade) to our customers. We create opportunities for artisans in developing countries to earn income by bringing their products and stories to our markets through long-term fair trading relationships. We educate volunteers, customers, and the kansas city metropolitan community about fair trade artisans and farmers, their cultures, and the opportunities and challenges they face. Our volunteers have the opportunity to participate in fun and educational activities like international dinner club and the downtown overland park fall festival parade. Sales associates and greeters may join the offsite sales team and the speakers' bureau to share a sampling of fair trade products and our mission with the community outside of the store. During 2017-18, we had 65 volunteers donating over 5,546 hours of service.
