Mission: The teller senior coalition assists at-risk senior citizens to live independently in their homes by providing transportation, nutrition, respite, counseling and handyman services.
Programs: Transportation is provided to senior and disabled clients. Teller senior coalition clients are defined as age 60 or older or disabled, low-income persons, and the transportation service gives the clients access to shoping, medical care, social and recreation activities. This service directly helps at-risk individuals avoid the dangers of isolation, including depression, illness and sometimes death. Transportation services are provided at no cost to clients. Services are provided with a subaru station wagon, a gmc 8 passenger van, a ford escape suv, a 16 passanger bus and a gmc terrain. A total of 102,456 miles were driven in this program during 2017.
teller senior coalition provided 2,258 hours to caregivers of home-bound seniors by providing grant funds for respite time to give the caregivers relief from 24/7 responsibilities and to tend to their own needs. A licensed professional counselor provided 16 hours of counseling to home-bound seniors and their caregivers. Grants were provided to individuals to pay for transportation, medical bills, and utility bills (heat, electricity and water) in emergency situations. The material aid program provided minor health and safety home repairs for senior citizens. A teller senior coalition case manager monitors the eligibility and proper use of all grants by personal contact with the clients and feedback from the counselor.
861 hot meals were served to senior and disabled clients at the woodland park senior center during 2017. This on-site program was discontinued during april of 2017. During 2017, 7,987 frozen and shelf stable meals were delivered to home-bound seniors as part of the rural area meal program.
