Causes: Children & Youth, Youth Development Programs
Mission: Empowering our next generation to become impassioned stewards for their ocean through education, experiential learning, scientific research and innovative technologies.
Programs: Scientific expeditions and exploration: we create field-based learning experiences for students to engage in long-term science research projects using innovative technologies. Research projects include coral reef, shark, and sea turtle monitoring and incorporate various technologies including underwater webcams, science nodes, remote networks, and acoustic telemetry systems. Our expedition sites are located throughout the florida coast, mexico, central america, and the caribbean. Students can work through partner diving facilities to complete scuba certification for the diving portion of these research experiences. Fundraising efforts for this program are aimed at providing student scholarships for underserved youth to participate in these life and career-building opportunities.
community outreach: extending our programs to the communities we serve educates the public about what we do as an organization as well as what our students do as ocean ambassadors. Through the mobile ocean inspiration center and by attending countless local events, we are able to build lasting partnerships for the organization and for our students to spread the word about ocean issues.
student chapters: student groups and individuals are provided with guiding information on establishing sucessful chapters and projects within their communities. Our action kit resources are designed to introduce students to t4o programs, global ocean issues, and engage them with our research, stewardship and outreach projects. Teens4oceans' long-term goal is to have a networked, international community of students and marine science mentors.
ocean stewards: our ocean stewards mentorship program aims to pair teens both locally and from around the globe to provide a foundation for sharing their intertwined stories. Whether it's dealing with dirty beaches and creating plastic pollution solutions or sharing an interest in sea turtle research, we want to facilitate relationships where peers can celebrate their sucesses together and share their common experiences. Another facet of the mentorship program allows sudents to work directly with t4o partner scientists to gain expert knowledge on marine research topics. Students build lasting relationships with scientists and leave with the confidence to follow their passions into a meaningful career.
