Mission: The mission is to inspire choices that lead to a healthier and more vibrant community for generations to come.
Programs: Transportation choices alliance: in january 2014, after more than a year of research and partnership building, sustain charlotte launched thetransportation choices alliance. The mission of the alliance is to increase transportation choices and their use throughout the charlotte region to improve traffic, air quality, public health, mobility and the economy. This year we created a website and social media presence for the alliance, hosted a sustainable commute challenge, and installed bike racks in five neighborhoods, to name just a few accomplishments.
sustainable neighborhoods: throughout 2014, sustain charlotte provided sustainability education to residents in five motivated neighborhoods in charlotte and empowered them to set measurable sustainability goals for their communities, based on their interests and needs. We suggested strategies and resources to help them achieve these goals, compiled this information into sustainable vision plans for each neighborhood, and provided a small grant for them to begin projects.
annual sustain charlotte awards & earth day celebration: in april, we formally recognized 75 organizations and individuals who are moving our community towards charlotte 2030: a sustainable vision for our region. Awards were given in ten categories: air quality, transportation, energy,land use, water, social equity, economy, food, waste, and an overall outstanding leader. The winners in each category were announced at our annual gala, which over 270 people attended.
