Causes: Education, Higher Education
Mission: In the course of teaching at the Ahfad University for Women, a private, non-political and non-sectarian university in Omdurman (1983-1987, my wife and experienced first hand the limitations of the AUW library. I (Dr. Lee g. Burchinal) established the Sudan American Foundation for Education to provide donated books for the AUW library. SAFE quickly expanded to include delivery of educational equipment and supplies; and further, to aid to now 25 libraries and educational institutions throughout Sudan. SAFE is the main source of English-language materials for these universities and colleges. SAFE operates entirely with volunteers. All funds received are used to acquire and ship donated books and other materials to Sudan.
