Causes: Employment Preparation & Procurement, Job Training
Mission: STRIVE/Fairfield County, Inc., a privately-funded service organization, was founded in June 1998 by a group of local churches, businesses, individuals and the Norwalk Chamber of Commerce to help prepare unemployed and low-income underemployed individuals for meaningful employment. STRIVE received 501(c)(3) tax-free status in early 1999. While there is no typical client, most are minorities between 18 and 40, living in subsidized housing. Many are single mothers. Others have backgrounds of parental neglect, marginal schooling, no meaningful work history, low self-esteem, continued failure and often, exposure to crime and drugs.
