Mission: The state theatre, new jersey's second largest performing arts center, links the world's great performing artists and artistic achievements to the people of new jersey. Built in 1921 by the renowned architect thomas w lamb and magnificently restored in 2004. The 1850-seat theatre presents a diverse lineup of world-class performing artists to enhance the quality of life for some 200,000+ new jersey residents who attend its main stage performances of music, dance, theatre, comedy, and international attractions, and some 35,000 school children who attend its school performances, in-school education programs, and other outreach activities.

Pillars of its programming include the broadway series, which features national tours of hit broadway musicals; the orchestra series, which features renowned international orchestras in a hall noted for its acoustical excellence; and the family series, which features a host of family-friendly entertainment for children of all ages. In addition, the theatre presents comedy, rock/pop, ballet and modern dance, orchestral pops with the new jersey symphony orchestra, jazz, blues, variety, and international programs.
arts education arts education has been a cornerstone of state theatre new jersey's mission from its very first season, and has grown to serve nearly 35,000 people annually. Programs are provided at heavily subsidized cost or completely free of charge, and include performances for schools, which presents high-quality schoolday matinee performances for students; autism-friendly relaxed performances, tailored for those on the autism spectrum; the artist-in-residence program, which serves disadvantaged populations in special needs and inner-city schools, residential treatment facilities for adolescents and adults, homeless shelters, juvenile and adult corrections facilities, senior centers, libraries, and other non-traditional settings; an annual family day festival featuring a host of performances and hands-on activities; milk & cookies, a music and storytelling series serving young children aged 3-8; and a free family movies series.
