Mission: The volunteers organized the SJHS in 1992 to improve the virtually non-existent animal control/rescue programs in St. John Parish, Louisiana. Since then, the volunteers have expanded their rescue efforts to other areas of the southern United States. The society accepts and seeks homes for all breeds of canines and felines. Education and spay neuter are priority programs. Since eradication of homelessness does not seem to be in sight, the society is working towards procuring enough funding to build a larger facility to allow animals a better chance of adoption.
