Causes: Environment, Environmental Education
Mission: Sprout up is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that links teams of college student-instructors with 1st and 2nd grade classes for weekly activities, experiments, and discussions that explore the relationship between humans and the natural world. Our environmental science and sustainability program has become hugely popular among teachers, volunteer instructors, and -- most importantly -- the students we teach. In three years we have expanded our environmental science and sustainability programs to near 50 classrooms in five cities (santa barbara, santa cruz, san francisco, davis, and san luis obispo. ) the program was recently endorsed by high-level administration in both the goleta union and santa barbara school districts, and we are currently working with them to designate the program as a requirement for all 1st and 2nd grade classes throughout their districts.
