Mission: To coordinate and direct the community participants in their efforts to improve the environment and strengthen the economy in southwest detroit.
Programs: Clean diesel program: recruited local businesses to participate in federal and state grant applications that resulted in over 1,000,000 in government funding and private contributions dedicated to purchase equipment for reducing diesel pollution from trucks and other vehicles in southwest detroit. There efforts are removing over 6 tons annually of harmful diesel emissions from the air. Sdev also took a lead role in advocating a city of detroit anti-idling ordinance which was approved by the city council. It has participated in developing educational materials regarding the ordinance which is distributed to owners of trucking fleets.
clean neighborhoods (tire sweep, scarcyny park, cadillac urban gardens) - this program is designed to be a coordinated effort to address blight issues in the community by working together with residents, businesses, organizations and other volunteers. Sdev has various initiatives that address blight and improve the appearance of public space in the community, including an annual tire sweep, scarcyny community park, and the cadillac urban gardens, which aims to create a zero waste garden environment while providing residents with fresh produce, as well as a community gathering space.
community education - the safe routes to school program targets areas around local schools to create clean, safe zones free of dumping and blight.
