Mission: The mission of the southwest business improvement district (swbid) is to design and manage a comprehensive series of programs to improve the image, connectivity, and business climate of the near southwest quadrant of the district of columbia. The swbid provides place management, branding and place making services and programs. The goal of all of the swbid efforts is to make southwest dc a cleaner, safer and better connected place.
Programs: Place management - swbid provides services to swdc property owners and residents through safety, cleanliness, and beautification support of the bid area. Services include: a daily work plan focusing on target areas for cleaning and repair by the sw "clean team; an ongoing assessment of public space amenities; supplemental cleaning and maintenance of public parks and federal reservations; removal of debris in public areas; powerwashing of sidewalks, underpasses and bridges to remove dirt accumulation and all graffiti; installation of seasonal banners and wayfinding signs; the planting and care of trees and landscaping in public spaces; outreach to the homeless to provide medical, legal and service referrals, as needed.
placemaking - swbid activates public spaces within the bid borders in order to promote community engagement and connectivity. In 2016, swbid continued to support the two activations launched the prior year located at the lot at 4th and m street sw (a weekly farmer's market and a twice monthly night market) and federal reservation 113 (the corner of 7th and maryland ave sw). We maintain ongoing relationships with community leaders and elected officials to launch special events and beautification programs.
place branding - swbid place branding initiatives include gathering and publicizing data on the changing, diverse neighborhood, updating website content, formulating wayfinding signage, maintaining an active virtual media campaign, and hosting community groups to maximize new public initiatives in the area.
