Mission: SouthStar Services (formerly Happiday Centers) was founded in 1950 by south suburban parents in search of education, training, and activities for their mentally retarded children. During the 1950's and 1960's, volunteers staffed Happiday School in various donated quarters in the south suburbs. As students matured, there was an increasing need for vocational services. Responding to this need, SouthStar Services moved to its current location in 1975, the Training Center at 1005 West End Avenue in Chicago Heights. At this time, SouthStar Services was exclusively serving adults. Today, SouthStar serves 300 adults with developmental disabilities each day ,providing job training, job placement and other services to help them reach their potential and live independent, productive lives.
