Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals
Mission: The purpose of the organization is to rescue every southern california purebred collie, whether from shelters, relinquishing owners, finders, or other sources, regardless of the age, state of health, or condition of that collie. The organization may provide aid to collies in other areas.
Programs: The organization rescued about 29 collies last year. Southland collie rescue provided veterinary care, boarding, and training to all the rescued animals as well as to many others. Some of the dogs came from animal shelters, having been picked up as strays and not reclaimed. Some came from homes of families who could no longer care for them. Some of these dogs were adopted by new owners. Some were let out to people as "foster dogs". Some were transported to our facility in riverside where we can provide a permanent home for them if they are unsuitable for adoption. The expenses of the "foster dogs" are borne by the organization, not by the fosterers. During this year, we also donated $3,650 to our sister rescue organization, nor-cal collie rescue, to help pay for surgery on one of their rescued collies who required very extensive surgery.
we provide and maintain a property for housing collies while they await adoption and for those dogs who are too old or infirm to be adopted.
we produce, print, and mail a newsletter three times a year for our members, donors, and other interested parties.
