Programs: Conservation technical assistance (soil technicians & program support specialists):rc&d has an active partnership with nrcs to provide technical support to the local soil conservation districts throughout the state of maryland. During fy 17, rc&d employed six (6) individuals that were based out of local soil conservation offices through the state, and managed by nrcs staff. The cooperative agreement / grant that covers these employees will continue through december 2017. Forage agronomist position:rc&d is administering a federal grant to fund a full time forage specialist to provide information and technical advice to area farmers. The forage agronomist is done through a contract and not as an employee of rc&d. The contractor continued work under this grant through december 2016. Rural legacy / repi conservation easement program:rc&d not only provides contract services for patuxent tidewater land trust administering their land preservation easements, but in 2016 became a partner with the navy, the state of maryland, and st. Mary's county to administer land preservation easements directly. Navy / rc&d: rc&d continues to administer conservation and environmental projects on area naval facilities through cooperative agreement with the navy, under the authority of the sikes act to facilitate the implementation of numerous important conservation measures, that protect endangered species and the water quality of the chesapeake bay. Rc&d is currently administering 6 large projects on 3 different military installations in the state of maryland. Those projects include:navy recreation centersouth shoreline - rc&d continues monitoring efforts of the completed project, and will continue to do so until october of 2019. North shoreline - rc&d was awarded a shoreline stabilization project to repair 820 lineal feet of shoreline to protect the navy's infrastructure. Rc&d completed the project in june of 2016. The warranty period will be in effect until june 2017. Nrl - chesapeake bay detachment nrl slope - rc&d awarded the construction component of the contract to a local contractor and work began on the project. Construction will continue through march 2018, with warranty through december 2019. Nrl pond repair - rc&d completed this pond / dam repair in february 2017. The warranty period will continue through february 2018. St. Mary's county projects pax river naval baseholton pond - rc&d began construction in may 2016 and is estimated to be completed in spring 2018. Cedar point subreach #2 - rc&d was awarded a shoreline stabilization project for 600 lineal feet along the chesapeake bay on pax river naval base. Construction began in march 2016 and was completed in june 2016. The warranty period continues through june 2017.
