I am professional actor in New York City. I took part in a production by SRT and was blown away by the experience. We worked on a new and original musical with the writer/ composer and Todd Lloyd, our director and SRT co-creator, who was open and patient to new ideas from the shows creator, and well as from the actors. As an actor, nothing is more thrilling that being to first to inhabit a role, and Todd encouraged our ideas and worked with us to help shape our characters. I was truly inspired to show up to rehearsal everyday to be motivated and guided by SRT's incredibly creative and smart team.
Beyond that- the final performances were well planned and the atmosphere professional while allowing space for this new work to blossom and grow.
I would love to work at SRT again. And again.

I had the privilege of working with Sonnet in 2010. I played Richard II for them in their production of Richard II on trapeze. It was one of the most thrilling experiences of my life as an actor. Sonnet is an incredibly strong company of gifted artists, that have made it a priority to passionately pursue a reimagining of theatre, on every level.

Sonnet Rep has at it's core that special something that bridges classical theatre with modern life. It's a life-force that should be around forever to put flesh and blood to the greatest works of all time.

Sonnet Rep takes the classics and brings them to life in a city that doesn't necessarily get a wide array of classic theatre options. They bring them to life with energy, class and a love for the integrity of text. They are a group of young upstarts who care about live performance and hope to bring that love to the young children on New York City.

I have had the opportunity to watch this superb company grow over the past 9 or so years. I've been a member of the theater community for a long while and never have I felt so connected to, and so proud of a group - especially one that I am not directly involved with! I'm SO very excited to see where they take their company over the next many years. Go SRT!

My wife and I are proud board member of the Sonnet Repertory Theatre. The commitment to excellence of the talented and dedicated officers and directors of this worthwhile organization have brought dazzling and original theater production to New York City, contributing to the richness and fullness of life in this magnificent city. Further, it has given so many young, classically trained actors and actresses the opportunity to work in the city and to build resumes and work on their chops. Beautiful, thoughtful and original productions are the standard for SRT. It is an asset for theater lovers and for young actors just getting a start in NYC and, through its educational programs, youngsters who just love to show off.

Sonnet Rep is a vibrant group, dedicated to attacking classical works with approaches that link works of old to themes that feel modern. The company has grown every year, but has not rested on its success; every year, SRT seeks to push itself beyond its previously established boundaries.

I first became acquainted with Sonnet Rep when my daughter performed in one of their productions. I was hooked! Since then I have seen everything they have done and was recently asked to join the Board of Directors. I cannot say enough about the level of talent and professionalism that the creative team brings to the table. They are truly a remarkable company. I am thrilled to be assisting in the small measure that I am.

I have been going to see shows and benefits put on by Sonnet Repertory Theatre for almost 8 years now. This is an amazing group of artists dedicated to nuturing the art of collaboration, which is why I find their work so exciting. From thier 24 hour play series, to their thrilling partnership with Matchstick productions, Sonnet Rep. maintains a disciplined eye on the classics as well as creating amazing new work and supportingthe work of new writers, directors, and actors.
Over the years I have seen Sonnet Rep. pull off some magic: transforming the bank street theatre into a magical Midsummer forest, making it rain on stage at The St. Clements theatre in its AMAZING production of '12th Night', and bringing togeather some of the finest in New York theatre to honor thier mentors. I have felt very lucky to see this company spread its wings and cannot wait to see what they have in store.

I had the opportunity of working on a new music theatre piece about the live of Hermann Hesse and his writing of the famous novel, SIDDHARTHA. It was the kind of ambitious work that can only be developed by a company like SONNET REPERTORY. They are not afraid to take creative risks and they stand behind their artists before, during and after the actual performing is over. SONNET REP is deeply committed to fostering new, adventurous theatre artists and the work that these artists are passionate about.

Many Theatre Companies try to bring works of the past vibrantly into the present, but do not have the capacity or creativity to do so. Sonnet Rep is one of those rare burgeoning institutions that does manage to pool talent together both emerging and established in order to bring classical works to life for a modern audience. This delicate balancing act is a testament to the caliber of artists and the commitment to classical artistry that Sonnet Rep promotes even during these stringent economic times. I hope this company continues to grow and shed light on works that far too many have written off as out dated or unconnected to the situations we face today. May their beacon shine bright positively promoting classics in a new light

Sonnet Rep's Co-Production with Fight Or Flight of Richard II was some of the best and most progressive theater I've seen in a while. It was cutting edge theater, and so few theater companies are willing to take these kinds of risks (arial theater!) and succeed with no damage to physical or ethereal bodies!

SRT is comprised of an amazing group of talented people. Their dedication to producing innovative and high quality theater on a shoestring budget has been truely remarkable. SRT consistently draws the best talent from actors to directors to writers to designers as they all know they will be part of something special. My daughter portrayed Mustardseed in SRT's A Midsummer Night's Dream and that experience has fueled what will most likely be a lifelong passion for the arts. I am incredibly honored to be associated with not only a wonderful theater company, but also such a genuinely great group of individuals.

As a costume designer just starting out in the industry, my time working on Sonnet Rep's "Richard II" serves as one of the highlights of my career and of my portfolio. Sonnet Rep makes the kind of work I can't wait for my friends to see. I'm new to theater and new to Shakespeare. I was lucky enough to be a musician in Sonnets production of Richard II. They truly knew what to do with it to bring it to new audiences. I then went to see the next production they did of 12th Night and thoroughly enjoyed that. I look forward to seeing what they do in the future and hopefully working with them again.

I experienced SRT's Twelfth Night, and I must say it was the most refreshingly creative take I've ever seen done on the piece. The amazing technical choices (set, costume, lighting, effects) complimented the story so well and helped fuel the actors' inspiration, driving the action forward in a compelling way. The frequent and effective use of music throughout brought out a depth of character relationship and thematic tone that was quite moving and exciting to watch.

I love Sonnet Rep.! With every production, they find amazingly creative ways to breath new life into classic texts. The worlds they create are vivid and pulsing with passion, and I've come away from every play that I've seen them tackle with a deeper understanding of why that text is so special. They don't just slap an interpretation on a play either; they are one of those rare theater companies who are truly interested in exploring the essence of a play and nurturing artistic growth. I think that is why they are so successful at making classic plays accessible to modern audiences.

Their production of Midsummer Night's Dream was a a blend of theatre professionals and youth from the community. I have been a board member since 2005. Since this time, the company has stabilized its finances and now has a positive cash balance at all times. This has allowed the company to produce improved and more ambitious programming and extend its audience. Sonnet has produced an original musical "One" that secured additional development financing for the authors, Richard II on trapeze, and has landed Tony-award winning set designers to assist with productions. From small black box stages off-off Broadway, we have grown to mpre professional venues on Broadway, and each year our cabaret is an event the community looks forward to - both artists and guests

The words Sonnet Repertory Theatre had been tossed around occasionally back at the North Carolina School of the Arts, the place many at SRT call their alma mater. As a young actor preparing for my induction into the real world of a working artist, I had no sense of the level of accomplishment Tiffany Little Canfield and Todd Lloyd had reached in building SRT. I also didn't realize then how meaningful it would soon become to me that a theatre company of SRT's caliber existed as a place where young North Carolina grads could both see and participate in great classical theatre. In the sometimes harsh world space I stepped into as a southern trained actor in New York City, SRT began to take shape in my mind as an oasis of community and quality. These understandings took time, but the constant outreach on the parts of Todd and Tiffany made it easy to jump onboard. SRT is the real deal. One visit to their yearly benefit show and you're aware that they have friends in high places, and that's because they're truly reaching new heights. I have seen many productions of Twelfth Night, but the rest pale in comparison to SRT's inspired rendition last year. It gave me faith in this industry because it showed me that good Shakespeare can indeed be done on a low budget, and the community will support it. Sonnet Repertory Theatre absolutely deserves this grant. I look forward to seeing what new heights they might reach with it.
