Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Education, Educational Services

Mission: The Solstice Institute is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whichdevelops and distributes educational content, delivers trainings and operates a research and education office at 302 Pearl Street in Boulder Colorado. At our facility, which we consider to be a prototype urban center for Sustainable Culture, we host a village scale non-residential community, conduct research on sustainability oriented building technology, and house a public access reading library. Central to our work is understanding, developing and applying the fundament building blocks of cultural consciousness, which are often referred to as "Memes." The term Meme has been developed by Richard Dawkins and others, and are ideas or units of conceptual framework. They can be expressed collectively as shared cultural understanding, and can take the form of words, actions, community events, architectural technology, service projects, or as different ways of relating to meaning and value such as a different way of relating to money than a traditional corporation would. The Solstice Institute's primary purpose is to help cultivate worldwide shared cultural understandings that will enhance opportunities and health for all present and future generations. To further our basic purpose, in addition to basic research and education, we operate or support an assortment of projects we consider to be high leverage opportunities for promoting a more sustainable future.
