Nonprofit Overview
Mission: The society for the promotion of japanese animation (spja) is a non-profit organization with a mission to inspire the world through japanese animation and culture.
Programs: Currently, the largest program of the spja, anime expo is an annual convention currently held at the los angeles convention center. Historically, anime expo ("ax") has been held on the 4th of july weekend as a 4-day event. Anime expo has grown in scale dramatically, and is currently the largest anime and manga convention in north america. It is the second-longest running anime convention (after a-kon in texas). Ax began in 1992.
anime conji is another program of spja. It is a smaller annual anime convention held in san diego, with a greater emphasis on fan programming.
continue project anime which provides an open forum for leaders of related events to discuss relevant topics and issues regarding event management and development.
continue cosplay expo gatherings for fan groups of certain characters and story lines, featuring set displays and backdrops for scene recreations and group photo opportunities.
