Mission: Skybot challenge's mission is to promote the enhancement of public knowledge and the inspiration of acaddemic acceleration students at all levels of education through outreach programs that inspire, inform, enlighten, and achieve the necessary levels of stem principals and practical application thta help propel the united states to world leadership in robotics and uas fields.
Programs: In april and may of 2017, the third skybot challenge events were held at faith lutheran ms & hs in clark county, nevada, with april event being the qualifier for the may 20th finals. With 38 teams from 12 schools and over 180 students it was the best turn-out ever. Similar to prior years each team was called a corporation, with different industry applications of skybots from agriculture to emergency response engaged in the first of its kind competition by presenting their business plans and flying their skybots through an obstacle race. The event was open to the public and attracted a total of 600+ spectators from the community to meet the teams and enjoy the day(s) of skybot flying. About 40 volunteers contributed over 800 hours of their time to the april and may 20th events and about 15 volunteers contributed 550 hours during the several months before the events to prepare the teams of middle school students for the competition. During the 2nd half of 2017 planning began for the skybot challenge 2018, involving about 19 volunteers that provided a total of about 1200 volunteer hours to this effort. Robotics have been part of competitions for many years. With the advent of airborne drones, or skybots, it is imperative that the third dimension gets added. Nevada is the first in the nation with this competition.
