Causes: Arts & Culture, Historical Societies & Historic Preservation
Mission: To conduct and encourage historical research and to collect, preserve, and exhibit historical material in connection with the town of skaneateles.
Programs: The organization conducts and encourages historical research and collects, preserves and exhibits historical materials in connection with the town of skaneateles. Some of the main exhibit areas in the museum at the creamery include boating, transportation, agriculture, industry, rural schools and skaneateles lake. There are also changing exhibits, including one off-site in a local store. Monthly program meetings are open to the public free of charge.
the skaneateles historical society is well known for its excellent indexes of births, marriages, deaths, and cemetery records. Many of these records are also available on our website. In addition, extensive files are kept on a wide variety of subjects relating to life in skaneateles. The collection of books, scrapbooks, and photographs are being compiled into a computerized database to improve public access.
the organization maintains a gift shop in its museum that offers a variety of items relating to skaneateles. It has a particularly fine collecton of books and pamphlets, in addition to cards, afghans, and other miscellaneous items. Proceeds are used to support the general operating expenses of the facility.
