Mission: Silicon valley toxics coalition (svtc) engages in research, advocacy and grassroots organizing to promote human health and environmental justice in response to the rapid growth of the high-tech industry.
Programs: Chemical use and reduction in emerging technologiessvtc's nanotechnology safety initiative, seeks to develop effective worker protection policies for this new wave of industrial materials and processes. The initiative combines research, advocacy, and public outreach to address the increasing use of nanotechnology in solar pv manufacturing and electronics. In fall 2010, svtc released our nanotechnology in electronics booklet, an illustrated, easy-to-understand overview of nanotechnology aimed at informing electronics industry workers and the public about the health risk and benefits of nanotechnology used by the electronic industry. Use the svtc website, e-alerts, blog, newsletter, and online social media communication to expand public awareness of nanotechnology safety and policy issues.
svtc solar scorecardsvtcs solar scorecard (http://solarscorecard. Com), now in its fifth year, is working to define and measure sustainability goals and encourage industry progress. The scorecard ranks solar companies based on sustainability, safety, and social justice, using responses to svtcs annual survey and other publicly available data. The scorecard promotes solar industry safety, sustainability, and transparency, and it has become a valuable tool for solar pv investors, institutional purchasers, and public consumers. The scorecard has been developed in partnership with university researchers, solar companies, and socially responsible investment (sri) firms.
