Mission: All youth with a hearing loss have free access to communication without the use of interpreters! Our camp will be held each year for one week at the Wilderness Resort, Route 3, Spotsylvania, Virginia. Here, we swim, hike, fish, and have a variety of activities throughout the day related to our theme for the week. Often we have trips and events, such as going to Washington, DC, rafting down the Rappahannock River, or spending the day at King's Dominion. Our campers vary in ages from three to eighteen. Most of our counselors are the campers that are in high school or ASL students from the local high schools. The cost to the campers is minimal for the week, which covers the cost of their t-shirts.
Target demographics: children who are deaf/hard of hearing
Direct beneficiaries per year: 35 campers
Geographic areas served: the Rappahannock region of Virginia
Programs: a day camp where children do not need interpreters to facilitate communication
I have been a part of this non profit since my son was 4 years old. He is now 24 years of age. It continues to provide a safe and fun environment for youngsters who are Deaf, and the added adults and teens in the community who are Deaf and we'll, volunteering their time to make it what it is today. Parents are always welcomed at the end to witness the fun their children had during the week. Awesome fun, hiking, swimming, fishing, gym activities, and now a little zip line fun!! Help support their work, please.
