Mission: The sheldon museum, and educational institution which is a component of the haines borough located in the state of alaska, is committed to collecting, preserving and interpreting the history, art, and unique blending of diverse cultures within the chilkat valey region.
Programs: The sheldon museum is an integral part of the haines alaska community. It is open to the public year around (during 2016 there were 10,401 site visits). Permanent exhibits are on display as well as temporary exhibits, which include a series of six week solo or dup exhibitions by local tlingit (local native american group) and non-native artists during the summer months. Local artists are invited to apply, 3 to 4 are chosen for each season. Teachers also use the exhibits and website to supplement their educational materials. A children's corner features exhibits and activities of special interest to children, and numerous other activities associated with preserving and presenting the history of the chilkat valley are supported.
