Causes: Economic Development
Mission: To partner with underserved rural villages in myanmar to develop healthy communities. Through a collaborative process, we empower local leadership to make effective, sustainable change focusing on education, quality health care, and economic opportunities.
Programs: Important note: all of these accomplishments and goals are done in collaboration with our myanmar-based partner organization, muditar. Muditar and shanta leaders in turn partner with villagers to fund and accomplish projects that villagers identify as priority needs to improve and sustain quality of life. Education 2017 accomplishments: - built two multi-unit housing for primary school teachers - renovated two primary schools, including one retrofitted for middle school classrooms - built a new preschool building and provided supplies - provided school supplies (desks, benches, whiteboards) for two other primary schools - held english summer classes in three villages - established two school libraries - supported 42 students to attend special boarding school 2018 goals: - fund university scholarships - establish middle and high school scholarship fund in at least two villages - support 42 students to attend special boarding school - hold english summer classes in four villages - establish school libraries in four villages - pay middle school teacher salaries in two villages - construct a teacher house - build extra classrooms onto primary school for a two new middle schools - build a preschool
leadership and operations 2017 accomplishments: - conducted programming in 15 partner villages - through fundraising efforts had a 36% income growth from 2016 - hired a country director, based in yangon, to oversee all myanmar operations - researched and selected a new region in myanmar, pauk, to expand our programming - partnered with myanmar managers to provide trainings on sustainable development to other international and community-based organizations 2018 goals: - conduct programming in 17 partner villages - hire and train a regional manager to establish an office and programming in pauk - hire a new executive director to be based in durango, co - continue working closely with myanmar managers to manage financial controls, program procedures, and operations in myanmar
livelihood (previously know as economic development) 2017 accomplishments: - assisted 80 families in establishing their own pig farm - assisted 40 families to plant 12,000 coffee plant seedlings, and 135 families to plant shade trees for their coffee farms - established community loan funds in five new villages, offering low- interest loans to an estimated 400 new households 2018 goals: - establish 140 new pig farms - provide families in 8 villages with coffee plant seedlings - establish coffee plant nurseries in 8 villages - establish four new community loan funds - establish women savings groups in six villages - teach women in four villages how to establish home gardens
infrastructure 2017 accomplishments: - built clean-water systems built in two villages 2018 goals: - construct three clean water-houses - construct 3 miles of new road - install solar panels in one village health 2017 accomplishments: - conducted safe motherhood program in one village - subsidized contraception provided to 655 women - trained four new women to be nurse midwives in their four villages, provided birthing and medical kits to each - supervised nine nurse midwives 2018 goals: - supervise 13 village nurse midwives, hold workshops for continued learning - conduct safe motherhood program in six villages - provide subsidized contraception to approximately 525 women - hold yearly dental clinic for children in 17 villages
