Mission: The shakespeare society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the enjoyment, understanding, and appreciation of william shakespeare's works through performance, commentary, and educational activities. The shakespeare society's educational, literary, and artistic mission is to bring everyone to the joy and transformative power of shakespeare's works. We are the only organization in new york exclusively devoted to shakespeare, and our programs serve the city's entire population: laymen and academics, audience members and theater professionals, students and teachers, young and old. To open the door to shakespeare to the widest possible audience, we offer: humanities programs that bring scholars into dialogue with artists in front of a general audience, our major evening events; programs that support professional theater artists and institutions eager to explore the plays, including shakespeare talks and shakespeare works; extensive educational programs that reach both adults a

Shakespeare in schoolsshakespeare in schools provided a total of 161 in-school workshops for 1,500 middle and high school students in 58 classrooms at 13 schools in manhattan, brooklyn, the bronx, and queens. Sis professional teaching artists (tas) led the in-school workshops or "residencies" involving a series of 2 to 8 workshops per class. The residency curricula addressed common core learning standards and the nyc doe's blueprint for teaching and learning in the arts, and engaged students through performance-based approaches to shakespeares works. The tas customized each residency to meet the educational goals and needs of each classroom.
