Mission: Founded with a simple yet powerful idea, Shady Strong aims to create a supportive network that embraces and uplifts families who experience the isolation and challenges that come with facing ALS. We strive to enhance the quality of life and address gaps in services for the entire family experience of living with ALS, beyond just physical needs.
Results: Shady Strong has made a profound impact in the Southern Tier and Upstate New York, supporting individuals and families affected by ALS. The organization has supplied critical communication and mobility devices, including Tobii Eyegaze systems and motorized wheelchairs, ensuring accessibility and improved quality of life. Through its financial assistance program, Shady Strong has provided free physical therapy for individuals living with ALS, covered the cost of home modifications to improve accessibility, assisted with medical travel expenses, and helped families obtain essential equipment not covered by insurance. In addition, the organization has funded respite care for caregivers, allowing them much-needed breaks while ensuring their loved ones receive proper support. In 2024, Shady Strong hosted its most successful BBQ competition yet, drawing over 1,500 attendees and raising over $50,000 to fund its mission. Looking ahead, the organization remains committed to expanding its reach, providing critical financial relief, and being a vital resource for those in need.
