Causes: Civil Rights
Mission: To improve the legal response to survivors of sexual violence through education and training, advocacy, legal assistance, consultation and referral services.
Programs: With funding from a legal assistance to victims grant from the u. S. Department of justice, sexual violence law center (svlc) provided direct legal representation to 66 victims of sexual assault in king county in 2013. In collaboration with the king county sexual assault resource center, svlc provided community education, consultations, and pro se advocacy clinics for more than 100 victims in king county. Sexual assault legal services and assistance (salsa) also hosted and staffed a statewide legal helpline which responded to approximately 105 calls from victims, and provided technical assistance to attorneys and advocates in approximately 100 additional sexual assault cases across washington state. Svlc developed and distributed several resource publications for sexual assault victims and conducted a wide variety of training events for attorneys and legal professionals in washington.
