DisillusionedinNEPA General Member of the Public

I would NOT recommend Serving Seniors of Scranton (area includes Monroe and Pike counties) for 3 reasons based on experience.
1) The Ombudsman job description is to be Impartial when receiving complaints. When I contacted the Ombudsman they actually made false accusations against me the family member. It's not a good look when the Ombudsman just repeats something false from the Senior Living Center that I'm complaining about. The Senior Living Center whose former employees say "they will lie to your face" in reviews about the organization. I was hoping to receive caring and investigation as advertised for our loved one who is a resident. I don't call the Ombudsman when the senior residence is stepping on someone's toes - I contact the Ombudsman when there are multiple blatant violations that I have documentation for.
2) The services are advertised as confidential. I didn't see that happen during the complaint process. I filed a complaint, and when we spoke there were references regarding my loved one like the Ombudsman simply asked the senior living center their side of the story and they lied and the Ombudsman ran with that. Also after the complaint the senior residence had actions that appear to be directly in response to the complaint.
3) I had no idea there is a setting of Retaliation by the senior residence after getting a complaint. We experienced that and it was detrimental to the family and tragic for our loved one the resident. Reaching out to the Ombudsman probably made it worse for our loved one's experience instead of better.
It was very disillusioning to find that the safety net for residents did not exist for our loved one. I hope future families don't experience the pain we did. Our experience certainly showed what really goes on at senior living centers (at least the one in NEPA) and that the Ombudsman doesn't seem to be there to hold them accountable in order to protect residents.
