Mission: Sequoia began in 1981 to provide training in life skills so that people with mental retardation could live & work in their community. We also provide relief/respite to famlies who are the sole caregivers of individuals with mental retardation, autism and other forms of developmental disabilities. These children and adults often also have physical and neurological disabilities which need sincere attention. Sequoia''s programs promote the dignity, personal development, independence, and community integration of these citizens.
Programs: The Home and Community Based Program serves 40 people in their own homes and 4 in group homes through Foster/Companion care, respite, home living skills training, specialized therapies and other individual needs. The Residential Program provides 2 homes for adults with a life in a regular neighborhood. Currently, the residential capacity of these homes is 6 men and 6 women. Each home has a Home Manager and around the clock staff who coach them in independent living skills & job skills. The Supported Home Living Program serves approximately 20 people, and offers home-based independent living skills training, special-needs equipment, medical monitoring, social/recreational activities, transportation, and therapeutic services for children, adolescents and adults. The program also provides respite services for family members.
