Programs: The foundation is primarily focused on agricultural research experiments with a focus on water-use efficiency, soil management, and cover crop use which reduce the dependency on synthetic fertilizers, all of which can be used in developing countries to benefit small-scale and subsistence farmers. A large portion of the annual production of pinto beans and soy beans, grown as part of the research activities, were donated to the community food bank of southern arizona. The foundation owns ranches and farms in close proximity to the us/mexico border, allowing it to also conduct research on how human traffic (drug traffickers, economic migrants, and migrants fleeing violence in their home countries) crossing into the us illegally affects border security. The foundation's border properties also serve as education sites for visiting policy makers working on border-related issues.
