Mission: Senior services, inc. Of wichita is dedicated to delivering services that allow older adults the opportunity to lead quality lives while continuing to make positive contributions to the community.
Programs: Meals on wheels delivered 223,460 hot and nutritious meals to 1,516 homebound seniors five days a weeks and seven days a week for the individuals with the most need. Volunteers who deliver the meals provide a daily face to face contact for many who are otherwise isolated. The organization also facilitates the roving pantry program which takes grocery orders, shops and delivers to homebound seniors who have no one to shop for them. Senior services made 2,880 deliveries under the roving panry program this past year.
four senior centers provided 3,328 people age 55+ opportunities to learn, grow and stay physically, mentally and socially active. A vast array of events and programs such as yoga, tia chi, pickle-ball, computer classes and legal & financial advise were attended 37,000 times. Senior centers help those 55+ remain independant and connected to others.
senior services also provide other program services to individials 55+. Respite care provides much needed relief for the primary caregives of seniors, 2,632 hours were provided this year by the respite care program. As a means to keep seniors mentally and socially active the senior mentor program provides the opportunity for seniors to mentor teenage mothers and moms-to-be. This program benefits the senior and simultaniously provides an affirmative role model for the teen. The senior employment program helps job seekers age 55+ find meaningful employment in business or in-home support placements. Tailored specifically to mature workers. It is a valuable resource for both the workers and employers. 1,248 business and in-home placements were made this year. The organization also offers a variety of smaller programs designed to provide seniors with information relevant to the phase of life they are currently in and/or approaching as well as programs that provide opportunities for seniors to remain socially active and engaged in the local community.
the organization is currently running a capital campaign that will directly impact the meals on wheels and downtown senior center programs. This program service overall results in a net loss of program revenue due to the loss recognized from the dispostion of program related fixed assets.
