Mission: To help the working class poor in Colorado through donations of gifts, food and money.
Direct beneficiaries per year: 25,452 individuals receive goods and services from our food market
Programs: Secor operates a food bank that is open year round to help feed the working class poor. In 2017, the food bank fed an average of 500 families per month. Families were given non-perishable food as well as milk, eggs, and meat. Hundreds of volunteers, including many of the families that receive benefits from the food bank, serve each week in the food bank to help serve other families. in 2017, SECOR Cares carried out the Christmas outreach program that touched over 1,000 families, including 3,000 children. Families receive food for two weeks as well as clothing and gifts for each of the children. Thousands of toys were donated to SECOR Cares along with additional donations to make sure those children were able to celebrate Christmas with at least one gift to open. 400 volunteers worked over 3,000 hours to sort 40,000 pounds of food and wrap over 3,000 gifts. Every person involved in the outreach, including the volunteers and recipients, is blessed by this program. SECOR Cares provides financial assistance and financial counseling to those in need. In addition, we provide life skills that include budgeting and money management with the goal to help clients weather the financial storm and build a good financial foundation. We also provide weekend meals for elementary aged students whose families may not have the resources to eat. We pack bags that these students take home on Fridays with enough food for 4 people to provide 2 meals on Saturday and Sunday each as well as snacks and drinks. Currently we serve 489 students weekly throughout Douglas, Arapahoe and Elbert county.
