Mission: The society provides financial and technical assistance to the mccormick stillman railroad park in scottsdale, az for the enhancement and the enjoyment of the park by children, their families and railroad enthusiasts.
Programs: During 2017 the society continued to support the promotion of the mccormick stillman railroad park in scottsdale, az through financial and volunteer means. The society continues to assist in funding various additional repair items related to the model railroad building for the city and the railroad clubs. The society continues to loan pieces of the dorfman estate miniature collection and tall ships for display in the model railroad building. The society has assisted model railroad clubs housed in the model railroad building by funding the train repair and replacement grants for $2,500 per year per club, four clubs for 2017. The society continues to cover the cost of the entrance fee to the model railroad buidling by covering the city employee staffing costs. This allows the public to enjoy the building and its amenities at no charge. In 2017 the society agreed to cover the cost of an additional park employee to be hired as the special events coordinator exclusively for the park. This special events coordinator will allow for more activities and events to be planned for further enjoyment and use of the park. The society continues to sponsor and support the 4th of july fireworks at the park, the summer concert series, railfair, special children's events, holiday lights and members night. In addition to its annual support of the park's holiday lights event, the society commissioned and purchased new holiday lights displays for the public to enjoy. The society continues to assist with the cost of various repairs and maintenance to the park, park buildings and park equipment. In 2017 the society provided funding for the repainting of the carousel canopy, design, purchase and installation of new retail buildouts, and refurbishing, repairing and repainting 20 of the 32 carousel horses. The society also provided funding for additional casework for displays in the maricopa depot/museum and baggage car. For 2018 the society has approved funds to continue work implementing a new mobile friendly website, finishing the refurbishing of the remaining carousel horses, design and purchase of new retail buildouts including a mobile cart, plus providing funds to assist the park with rebuidling the #6 tinder car.
