Scott Valley Focus is the umbrella non-profit for the Scott Valley Family Resource Center (SVFRC). I have been a board member in 2010, but I am also a volunteer and a licensed therapist & educator who can't say enough about this wonderful organization. SVFRC is a safe and supportive organization that serves ALL citizens in small & rural Scott Valley. This past Christmas I helped make soup and was Santa's helper for a holiday drop-in. Children, teens, and their families came in to get warm, have some healthy soup (along with a sugar cookie that the kids could decorate themselves!), listen and sing to some carols, get homemade knit hats (local women took time to knit and crochet these warm hats) and to see Santa. I have heard stories and witnessed kids without computers have access to these; SVFRC employees & volunteers help people with mental illnesses get help, coordinate housing & food finds for those without enough funds (they also provide free soup every Wednesday - come one down!), arrange for people to get wood and/or help with their heating bills (it snows here and temps can dip below zero in winter), handout free books, offer literacy supports, create safe and sober halloween gatherings, provide chilcare, lunch, and the building for alcohol and drug family prevention classes, parenting classes, senior services and more. I could go on and on. SVFRC, you rock!
