Causes: Community Health Systems, Health
Mission: The purpose of schuylkill health system ("shs") is to help advance the mission, vision, and values of the schuylkill medical center - south jackson street ("smc-south") and schuylkill medical center - east norwegian street ("smc-east"). To accomplish that goal, shs serves as the fundraising arm of smc-south and smc-east. Activities promote and advance charitable health, scientific, social, and educational purposes, which in turn enhances the quality of life and benefits the residents of schuylkill county, pennsylvania and surrounding areas, and, among other things, to:a) support, promote, advance, and strengthen smc-south and smc-east in providing for the care and relief of injured and sick persons;b) promote the health and welfare of residents of schuylkill county, pennsylvania and surrounding areas through involvement in various health care and related activities; andc) provide assistance in whatever form to smc-south and smc-east.
Programs: Schuylkill health system (shs) oversees an annual golf outing and silent auction, proceeds of which are designated to specific projects and equipment purchases and scholarships for the smc-south school of nursing. An annual charity ball also generates funding for hospital programs and equipment purchases. Shs manages gift shops in the lobbies of smc-south and smc-east, which also generates funds for hospital programs and equipment purchases.
