Just wanted to take the time to give a shout out to Sandra Dollar and her great team. We love you guys! In 2016, we got our baby doll, Cookie dough from Save the Strays. We feel so blessed to have been chosen by Sandra to give Cookie a good home. Last week when I needed a lot of help with a lost puppy, again, Sandra was there. We live 2 hours away from her but she started making plans and working it out. Sandra took this sweet baby in and is working hard each day to get little Hope healthy and make it possible for her to be adopted into a happy, new home. Thank you, Sandra, for your passion to save the strays.

I rescued my little pup from Sandra and Save the Strays two years ago. She is the love of my life and my best friend and I couldn’t see myself without her! Sandra made the whole process easy and we still keep up with her regarding Darcy’s life in CT. Sandra is an extremely caring person and puts everything into Save the Strays. It is a wonderful organization that is devoted to helping, caring for, and saving animals that need love and a home. I highly recommend Save the Strays to anyone looking to adopt or support an organization that puts animals first.

My family adopted our first dog, Mimi, a little yellow lab mix, with Save the Strays almost 17 years ago. Our sweet girl lived to be almost 16 years old, but sadly passed last year. She truly was the best, most loving, dog you could’ve asked for. When Mimi was 8 we adopted another dog through Save the Strays, another lab mix, named Lacey, she is now 8 years old. Lacey was a great addition to the bunch so once I was an adult, I wanted to continue on myself by adopting through Save the Strays. My boyfriend and I saw there were a bunch of Australian Cattle Dog / Australian Shepherds and decided to adopt our sweet little Echo. Echo is now 5 years old and still just as fun, loving and energetic as the day we got her! My brother then a year ago also adopted a sweet pup Darcey through Save the Strays. We live in Connecticut, so we are not close in distance to the organization. However, Sandra, at Save the Strays, has helped us adopting far away a smooth process which in turn has given us our sweet pups. Save the Strays is hands down the best organization you can adopt from!

When I was young my parents adopted two dogs from save the strays. Sandra has always been so amazing with the dogs and the adopters! Our sweet Mimi lived to be 15 years old. We still have our other lab Lacey who will be 8 and I have since adopted a dog from here also, Echo, who turned 4 this year. My brother also adopted a sweet pup from save the strays, Darcy. Every dog we have adopted from here have been the biggest loves and sweethearts we could imagine! Our family has adopted 4 dogs and will continue to, it shows how much we love Save the Strays and how great they have been with us and the dogs!

We absolutely love our new baby! Ms. Sandra is extremely knowledgeable and provided us with all the necessary info to care for our HW+ baby and also provided a little advice on our other pups and transitioning with a new rescue! All of her animals are well taken care of and very well loved in their stops at the rescue, all of my references were checked and followed up with which we love to see to ensure a good and safe home for each animal that comes through. We definitely would recommend working with/ adopting from this rescue! I've had nothing but good experiences and interactions, we love Jenny girl and we are more than grateful to have found her and brought her home!! Thanks so much!

What fun we now have! We lost our last dog 2 years ago and gave away all the dog paraphernalia. It was a lot, after all we have married for 65 years and always had a dog. We were not going to get another. Then we started thinking-our house is not a home without a dog, so we started looking!
There is a rescue here in town but they have a lack of communication. We found Sandra by word of mouth via the internet. What a joy! We have had many breeds of dogs over the years and found the Shih Tzu to be a good choice as after retirement we traveled North America in our motor home and the small size was a good choice. We started the search for an adult Shih Tzu. Guess who had one?
Sandra is so knowledge and treats each dog as if it were her own. Toby is 2 to 3 years old and has health issues (came from a puppy mill). Sandra took him to 2 vets to check him out. We were given copies of the vets findings. We gave copies of the findings to our vet, prior to Toby's visit.
Without Sandra and SaveTheStrays we may not have gone thru the adoption. We have had Toby for 3 weeks and are a happy family with a dog and 2 cats!

You know the saying, “You don’t always get what you want, but God gives you what you need”? -- Well that’s exactly what happened when we adopted Poppy through Save The Strays Animal Rescue. We were looking for a “small dog” and Poppy was listed on PetFinder as small (17 lbs) because of their “sliding” scale. We put an inquiry in regarding Poppy, and found out that she was already adopted. So we decided to wait on the Lord before looking again.

About 2 weeks later, Sandra, from Save The Strays contacted us to say that Poppy was returned due to the other family already having an older dog and Poppy was too “puppy” around their dog, and were we still interested in meeting Poppy. (And of course we were!)

Sandra was great with communication, through emails, phone calls and texts. She answered our many questions. She sent us helpful paperwork and instructions in caring for Poppy as well. When we arrived at Save The Strays Animal Shelter, it was very neat and organized. We were totally impressed in all that Sandra does to maintain the animals there. Poppy was clean and well looked after. She was extremely friendly and affectionate. However, Poppy was now 20 lbs. That’s almost twice the weight of a dog we were hoping to adopt. But we really liked her and she was so pretty. So we brought her home and began bonding with her.

It’s been 4 months since we have adopted Poppy and we have gone through puppy hood and now we are into the teenage phase with her. She is definitely a hand full and very strong. She is now 35 lbs of muscle and energy, but has her down time too where she loves to sleep, sometimes even right on top of us! Poppy loves her back yard where she runs, digs, and plays fetch. She is getting used to the grandkids and will soon be taking Basic Obedience Classes. She has brought us so much joy. We are very thankful for her in our life and our experience with Save The Strays has been rewarding.

My family has adopted with Sandra and Save the Strays for over 15 years now, beginning with our beautiful MiMi who sadly passed away last year at almost sixteen years old. Since then, my parents have adopted another wonderful pup named Lacey and my sister and her boyfriend have adopted their dog Echo from Sandra. I adopted my first pup and best friend Darcy from Sandra last year. Sandra and Save the Strays made the entire adoption process easy, from amazing communication to transportation. Sandra is a loving person who provides great care for these animals without a home. I always recommend her to anyone who is thinking about adopting a pet and still keep up with her, giving her updates on Darcy’s new life in Connecticut. I could not imagine my life without Darcy and I am grateful for and highly recommend Save the Strays.

Sandra is God's gift to dogs. There are thousands of dogs who are still alive and enjoying happy lives thanks to her and her volunteers. We've known Sandra for almost 11 years when we were blessed to adopt our Michael from her. When she founded Save the Strays, she found her true calling and passion in life. Save the Strays isn't just another dog rescue operation. It is a loving and caring sanctuary for any and all canines who need a home. There are countless stories of Sandra rescuing dogs abandoned on the side of the road or left in the woods somewhere, of rescuing dogs with myriad health problems that no one else wanted or could afford to care for, of rescuing dogs from puppy mills, of sparing no expense to feed, shelter and provide vet care for each and every dog she rescues. Save the Strays is probably the best dog rescue sanctuary in the country. How fortunate for the thousands of dogs she has rescued and the thousands of happy dog owners who have adopted them. If all of these dogs could talk, they would say that we might be man's best friend, but Ms. Sandra is our best friend!

Save The Strays holds a huge place in our hearts. This is where we adopted our precious 7 year old Michael. This is reason enough to give her five stars but she does so much more.
Sandra rescued Michael and his siblings and gave them the love and attention they needed. We were blessed to find Michael on Sandra's website and it was love at first sight. One of the great things that Sandra does is conduct interviews with prospective adopters. She wants to insure that her dogs go to the best homes possible. She interviewed me at least two times and the questions were centered around one topic-would we give Michael the best home he could have. As we were leaving with Michael, Sandra told us that if it didn't work out, she would come and get him. That's how passionate and caring she is for the wonderful canines she rescues. Sandra will also keep a rescue dog at her facility until she is satisfied that it will find a good home. And a few times, she has kept the dog for it's entire life because she won't send it to just anyone. My wife and I have encountered many dog rescue homes over the years. Save the Strays is without a doubt the absolute best! We've stayed in touch with Sandra over the years because it's great to have a friend who loves dogs and will do everything humanly possible to insure they have a good home. We and Michael give Sandra and Save The Strays Animal Rescue & Sanctuary five woofs!

Thank you, Dave. I love it when you, Sandy and Michael come for a visit. He is one wonderful dog! Thank you for mentioning that we do provide lifelong sanctuary for dogs that aren't adopted. Older dogs, shy dogs and those with medical conditions can be hard to find homes for. Although we believe there is a home for every dog, given enough time, if we don't find one for a dog, we make sure they have a home with us.

Several years ago we found ourselves faced with an abandoned dog at our house. Not wanting to sign him over to animal control we reached out to Save The Strays Animal Rescue & Sanctuary and they quickly agreed to take the dog. He received vet care and was soon adopted. Since then Save The Strays has taken in and adopted out three puppies that were also abandoned here. Over the years we've seen update pictures of the dogs with their adoptive families, they are all well loved and happy. All of that was made possible by the hard work and dedication these good-hearted folks put into saving dogs that found themselves abandoned on a lonely stretch of country road.

We adopted our beautiful "Madison" from this wonderful sanctuary, she was a bit older, a large female Rottweiler who would never have had a chance without Sandra. And despite not ever being part of a family before, Sandra makes sure she rotates the dogs into her house so they can adapt more quickly, and Madison was no exception. Loving, gentle, and smart, she transitioned immediately. She has passed, but we still miss her every day. Thank you Save The Strays and Sandra! My husband and I wanted our son to grow up with a dog. However, we both knew that finding a house-trained dog, who would be patient and gentle with a 1 year old would be a challenge. After meeting several other dogs with various rescue groups we found Save the Strays. Before meeting with all the recuses we explained our son was newly walking, rambunctious, and loved dogs but was still learning how to treat animals…he was only a year old! We were very disappointed with the first two rescue groups who both assured us they had dogs who were friendly and did well with toddlers. The dogs they introduced us to may have been comfortable around older children, but were not a good fit for a growing family with a toddler. Then we found Save the Strays!! Sandra was AMAZING to work with and gave examples of how Angus “Gus” had interacted with children (a variety of ages) in the past. We drove the two hours to meet Gus…it was love at first sight for Gus and our son! Sandra continued to provide support when Gus began having accidents inside. With her advice, we haven’t had any potty issues since. Now if I could only get her to potty train our little boy :)

Save-the-Strays is the best way to adopt. Sandra knows each dog and wants to make the best match, not just home a dog. I’m not surprised by the number of wonderful reviews I’ve read. Our adoption experience was over 10 years ago, and Paddy has crossed the Rainbow Bridge, but he remains in our hearts. We had seen this senior cockapoo on line, and when we met him, there was no turning back. Although he was quite old, Sandra had taken the time to make sure he was groomed and looking his best. From this experience, I began to look at older dogs more closely and now as a dog walker/pet sitter specialize in their care. I have learned more about how to accept life from these dear animals than I imagined possible. If you want to be sure your dollars go for a great cause and are handled responsibly, please consider a donation to help this incredible woman continue her work.

Once upon a time there was a woman, Sandra Dollar. I met her eight years ago, having seen the picture of an older cocker spaniel on Petfinder. I fell in love with this sweet senior dog, so my husband and I traveled to rural SC to meet. We pulled up to the address, which looked like an individual’s residence. Surely this couldn’t be an animal rescue, but it was. As soon as I met Sandra, I realized this WAS her residence...she just happened to share it with many special animals waiting for their forever homes. It would never have occurred to her to kennel these dogs, who had probably been through difficult times. Until they found loving owners (and for some that might never happen), they were “ her dogs,” no matter how many there were. There was Paddy (that was the name we chose), freshly groomed and eager to meet us. Sandra did not have to do this. Heaven knows she probably had plenty of vet bills she needed to pay, but she took the time to have Paddy look special. We ended up adopting this sweet dog, and although his time with us was not as long as we would have liked, we knew going in that this was part of the process of adopting an older dog, loving then letting go.

Over the years we have continued to keep in touch with Sandra and support her work. We know she stretches every dollar for maximum effectiveness, and she never complains. I don’t know where she gets her strength and resiliance. I just know that when I become discouraged with the world and people’s bad behavior, I think of Sandra, and I know as long as she lives, I can count on her to remind me that one person really does make a difference. With sincere gratitude for this wonderful organization, it is my pleasure to spread the word of this extraordinary lady and Save the Strays.

I have fostered dogs for Save the Strays for over 10 years. This rescue makes sure every dog they take in gets thoroughly vetted, including extras like dentistry when needed. They also take in dogs that other rescues won't - seniors, dogs with serious or chronic illnesses, and dogs with disabilities. Whatever the issue, they go the extra mile to make sure their dogs have what they need.

When we first moved to North Carolina, we were dogless having lost our wonderful dog shortly before moving. I searched on a placement site and discovered our new baby, Pretzel, on the site. We contacted Sandra, who carefully reviewed our pet-owning history, before allowing us to adopt. I expected the care she took with the placement, but he next act of kindness was truly remarkable. After the volunteer delivery flight that she had arranged fell through, Sandra and her sister delivered our beloved Pretzel to our home!
We have had our Pretzel for almost five years and while he has become a wonderful part of our family, Sandra has become a good friend. During the time I have known Sandra, I have how devoted she is to the dogs in her care and how committed she is to providing each one of them a loving and safe home. Sandra was very easy to get a long with and seemed genuinely interested in making sure it was a good fit. When we all decided that Regan was mine, they provided me with the leash, harness, a complete medical record, her medication schedule (flea/tick and heartworm) and the first dose of the heart worm medication. My vet and her staff was surprised at the detailed medical chart. I would DEFINITELY come to this shelter again if I were in the market for another animal. Sandra cares for each and everyone of the animals as if they were her own.

I adopted a senior pup from Save the Strays a few months ago.  Lily (now know as Billi) was rescued from a shelter - she was surrendered by her owner unspayed at 13 years old.  Save the Strays spent a lot of money getting her ready for her furever home (dental work, heartworm test, shots and spay surgery)

Billi has been the perfect addition to our family.  Ms. Sandra made sure I received all of Billi's vet info and has stayed in touch checking on Billi to be sure we are all happy with the adoption.

Please consider adopting and/or financially supporting Save the Strays.

I've been friends-almost-family with Sandra for many years and as a dear friend who knows us well, she's matched us with 3 of our 4 beloved fur children over the years. Sandra puts her heart and soul into caring for her animals and matching them with their forever homes. Most recently, our home was feeling slightly empty as we were down from 3 dogs to just 1 dog, our sweet Daisy, a Boykin Spaniel mix that Sandra matched us with as a puppy about 13 years ago. I reached out to Sandra in December to ask if she had a dog that would fit our family and the first week in January we were adopted by Deke -- an approx. 3 year old Jack Russell Chihuahua mix. He is the absolute best and snuggled his way into our hearts within minutes of arriving. He attached himself to our 7-year-old daughter immediately and is often by her side. And he and Daisy have bonded as if they've known each other forever. Deke is perfect for our family -- the sweetest little thing. We've taken more pictures of Deke than of any other dog! We all enjoy holding and cuddling with him and he loves the attention!

Sandra makes the entire adoption process easy, including the logistics of getting the dog from South Carolina to our home in New Jersey. She maintains a high level of professionalism, and most importantly, she puts the needs of the dogs at the forefront and makes sure each receives the care and love they deserve. Thank you, Sandra and Save the Strays for all you do for the animals and for connecting them with their families! We are so happy to have Daisy and Deke!

I came to South Carolina on a long work trip and was looking for dogs to foster during my time here. After emailing/Facebook messaging multiple rescues, Sandra was the first to respond and told me she had a few dogs she thought I could help. She dropped Jett off at the Air BnB I was staying in, as well as everything I would need (crate, toys, food, bowls, medications) for her while fostering. Not all rescues will do this, and I have often supported previous foster dog on my own dime. After five weeks, Jett was adopted! I am so glad they rescued such a great pup and gave her the second chance she deserved to find a new and furever home!

We have had dogs before, but this is our first adoption experience. Sandra made the meeting with our dog so comfortable and friendly. She has a natural gift for dogs and people! Save the Strays is definitely on a mission to benefit dogs in need of love. These little orphans find the security of their forever homes - and that is the vision we had as we began our quest for a furbaby friend. We know we all have much to learn about each other, but Sandra assured us that she is always available to help. From the Brown household, we pray for God's blessing and favor to continue toward Sandra and Save the Strays Animal Rescue & Sanctuary.

We adopted Georgi, now Indigo from Sandra at Save the Strays. She is now completely a part of our family; she and our other rescue Neeko(black and tan) are constant companions. Whatever he has she wants and vice versa. He has even taken to faking her out by asking to go out and then circles back and grabs the bone she was chewing on! They are very entertaining.
We also appreciate all of the information Sandra provided us; from standard records on our pup, to new research about switching food and manufacturers on a regular basis, to delaying spaying or neutering due to new studies on better health and longevity.
Thank you Sandra and Save the Strays for our new love!

My boyfriend and I graduated college and moved from WI all the way to SC, and after leaving our homes we missed having pups around. We looked and looked and nothing really spoke to us to get jumping on the adoption process. Then I found Calum with Sandra. Reading about this sweet boy we automatically fell in love with him. Speaking with Sandra she made everything so easy and gave loads of information that was so very helpful. Sandra cares so much about the animals that are in her care and you can tell by how she gives detailed reports on each of them, and is so thorough with their work. Sandra made the whole adoption process painless and was always in contact which was great. She gave us lots of tips with the adoption packet as well with his medical history and what to expect next, all very helpful and made the decision easy!

As a foster and volunteer, I can't say enough good things about Sandra and her rescue. Her rescue provides a safe home and medical needs for abused and neglected dogs that otherwise have run out of chances, as well as provide sanctuary for senior dogs. She also goes to great lengths to find suitable adopters for her dogs. Her passion, dedication and love for animals is reflected in every wagging tail that passes through her rescue.

Almost 5 years ago now I had been searching shelter & rescue group websites about a year & half for a new (to me) companion when Petfinder led me to Save the Strays. I had already decided it was best for me at my age, as well as the dog, to choose a mature spayed female in spite of my natural attraction to high energy young males. I found a lovely, charming 4 year old mixed spaniel female whose sweet disposition quickly won my heart, so my search was finally over (I thought). I felt my "stellar" credentials would guarantee a speedy adoption, but discovered that STS was not just trying to peddle mutts they were saddled with. These people truly cared about all the dogs in their keep & examined me, my motives, & my references thoroughly before they would permit the adoption. I was also amazed at the detailed medical history provided me & my Vet to guide their introduction to Bunny, as well as nutrition guidelines & other maintenance habits that had proven beneficial for her well-being. They were very candid about any health issues she had experienced. Surprisingly I was required to sign a contract that bound me to return Bunny to STS if for any reason I was no longer able to care for her. Many shelters/groups have a no return policy but Sandra Dollar, the founder, needs to be certain her "peeps" are not lost in the shuffle but guaranteed to be protected. They are also a no-kill operation which is big in my book.We stay in touch so they know she is OK. If I ever decide to adopt a companion for Bunny or, God forbid, that I should lose her, Sandra is the first call I would make. They do an awful lot with very little & I cannot recommend them highly enough.

In December of 2016, I adopted my first and only pet through Sandra. My pets name is Yoda and he is a dachsund/chihuahua mix. Going through the process Sandra became like a long lost friend. She answered all my questions plus giving me information that I didi not even know I needed. When I went to pick my pet up, I was made comfortable and reassured that I would do fine so most of my fears were put to rest.
Yoda has become my baby and when I have to leave him I get back to him as soon as possible.

I first met Sandra Dollar, who runs this non-profit, many years ago when I adopted a sweet dog named Amber. I had seen Amber on Petfinder and thought she was such a beautiful girl. I wanted to adopt her to be a companion for my senior male dog. Sandra and I spoke at length and I filled out an application. Since I lived several hours away there wasn’t an in-home visit, I drove to meet Sandra and Amber.

Sandra was kind and very informative; I knew that Amber’s best interest was her main concern. She was able to provide a great deal of information, not only about her history, but of her breed, which helped immensely in my decision making.

Amber (who I named Abby) spent seven wonderful years with me before passing on. Throughout those years I continued to speak with Sandra about her care, and often received recommendations on where to get help or how to approach different issues. I sincerely appreciated her dedication to her family of adoptees. She has re-homed hundreds of dogs, but they and their families are still “hers”. It shows! I continue to support this worthy cause to this day.

Hi my name is Joanie Dittman-Guthrie. I met Save the Stays back in August 2007 through Pet Finders. We had just lost our pup Spunky in July from diabetes and we were heartbroken. One evening my husband saw our adorable MImi in a picture with her sister on the Save the Strays website. We contacted the Rescue and spoke with Sandra Dollar. Sandra was so helpful and went out of her way to answer any questions we had about adopting Mimi..she sent pictures and information to us that made us know that Mimi would be such a great addition to our family.. we live in Connecticut... Sandra was able to arrange for transportation to get Mimi up to us.. Mimi will be 12 June 8th and we just love her to pieces.. April of 2016 I contacted Sandra and mentioned I would love to adopt another yellow lab pup so Mimi would have company.. at the rescue a litter of pups was available and Sandra once again made our hearts full by sending us Lacey..Lacey will be 3 in November.. Sandra was able to get help with transportation for us with Pilots to Paws .I cannot say enough how dedicated Sandra is at Save the Strays..she loves everyone of the pups in her care and it reflects in her work with them..I referred my cousin in New Hampshire to Save the Strays and they adopted a beautiful beagle pup.If and when I would love another dog for our home in Connecticut I will not hesitate to contact Sandra at Save the Strays ..please know that this organization is worthy of any and every praise for what they do with abandoned and stray animals..My heart is full of pride for all the love and compassion that this Shelter provides for these beautiful animals.Warmest regards Joanie Dittman-Guthrie and Family

It's been several years since I adopted from Save the Strays, but my experience with this organization has always been a positive one. I had been out to look at several different dogs, but my other dog just didn't seem all that interested in the pups we had visited with. One day I received an email from Sandra, and she said she had a new dog come in, his name was Scottie. She sent me a picture of him, and I'm thinking, he's not a Scottie he's a Scruffy! I went out that Saturday to take a look at him. He jumped the fence, and my other dog jumped out of the car and the two took off into the woods together. I knew I had found the right dog. Sandra never pushed me to adopt a dog for the sake of adoption. She always wants her dogs to go to good homes, but she also wants them to go to the right home.

Back in 2013 I had just moved to a ranch style home with almost an acre fenced in. I thought maybe I could help another dog that needed a home. I already had 3, but 2 were up there in age and my younger one needed someone closer in age. I had gone through many on PetFinder when I happened on Violet from "Save the Strays". My heart went out to this little brown dog that looked so scared. As it turned out....she was. She had been feral when Sandra rescued her at nearly 6 months old. But because of her fear, Sandra was having a difficult time finding a forever home because she was way too timid to go to anyone. Sandra had worked and worked with her to try and get her to trust her. I told her it didn't matter to me...I was retired and had plenty of time and that I wanted to help change her life. Sandra made sure that I knew that I could bring her back if things didn't go well. She even sent me a video so I could see how she was so skittish. Sandra is in SC and I am in GA....but she arranged for a transport to meet me near Madison, GA. She turned from Violet to Lizzy because she didn't move her head but her little eyes darted all around with fear. This past November I discovered a Lizzy look-a-like at a Rescue in Dalton GA. She had been surrendered and the comment the vet put on her paperwork was "very scared". Lizzy is my shadow and now this little girl River is Lizzy's shadow. They looked so much alike when young. River brings out a playfulness that even Lizzy didn't know she had! But Lizzy has a place that is only hers and it's next to my leg when sitting. If someone else tries to sit there she patiently waits (staring at me) for me to move them. She has to always be touching me. All my friends and family adore Lizzy. So a big THANK YOU to Sandra for finding her, working with her and trusting me to make it work!

We saw the sweetest little face online through Petfinder 16 months ago. He was half Chihuahua and half Shih Tzu, a big surprise because we thought 'some kind of terrier'. After visiting a few adoption 'fairs' and assessing whether or not one of the dogs we'd spotted would be a good fit with our 8 month old Pug we still hadn't found 'the one'. But this guy was, to us. We just had to introduce 'her' to 'him' and see how they did together. However, as it turned out, while we knew we'd be good dog parents and give this little sweet guy the best possible life, Sandra, who runs SaveTheStrays had to know that was so. She set aside as long as was mutually needed to spend time talking and to getting to us. She has a LOT of dogs and has a huge heart. These pups are her life. She carefully checks references and needed us to know that if for any reason this did not work out - adopting our Dexter who was then known as Triscuit - we were to bring him back to her and she would not cash our check for the adoption fee for two weeks. Or longer if need be. I cannot seem how she is not overwhelmed, but she is so dedicated and the care these dogs get when they land with her after their hard existences before, they are individually loved and cared for until Sandra feels sure they have their best possible shot at health and happiness. She keeps the littles inside with her and separately kenneled at night or they are are skittish but they are well socialized. The big dogs have clean, protective runs in insulated kennels outside and they too are loved and each known well. It was reassuring to us, although we would 'never' return a pup we committed to, that she wanted them back to rehome if anything didn't work. She cares so much. The world needs more people like her. And Dexter has been for fourteen months a great and loved addition to our family.

In 2010, I knew I wanted another companion, as my fur-baby had passed away several years prior. I also knew that I wanted to adopt, not shop! Save the Strays Animal Rescue and Sanctuary was one of the rescues that I had researched online, and after looking around on their website, I could tell that they cared greatly about the animals in their care. I was able to find my four-legged son Bertie (now changed to Buddy) in their page of available dogs, and I fell in love! The adoption application process was very easy, but they were also very thorough, to ensure that Buddy went to a good home. Sandra was a pleasure to work with, and even met me halfway between the shelter and my home at the time (NC) so I wouldn't have to drive so far! I could tell she loved Buddy and I believe it was a bittersweet day for her, but that day changed my entire life for the better! Buddy will be ten years old this fall, and I still stay in touch with Sandra and send updates about my Buds. I also donate when I can, so that they can continue to provide the best care possible for animals. I highly recommend this organization!
