Causes: Arts & Culture, Historical Organizations
Mission: 1. Stop demolition plans and secure protection of this historic public structure; 2. Research and document the pavilions architectural and cultural history. Assist the government in securing public or private funds to restore the Pavilion as a community venue for private or public events. 3. Assist in developing and suporting a robust business model that will sustain the facility for years to come. Specifically we will vigorously promote the pavilion to the community, music performers, social dance clubs and others to enhance the publics appreciation of our unique Galveston Bay ecosystem.
Results: 1. Stopped planned demolition of this county owned structure. 2. Successfully nominated pavilion for listing on National Historic Registry (NHR), State Antiquities Landmark (SAL), and Recorded Texas Historical Landmark (RTHL). NHR listing resulted in HUD CDB grant to renovate the pavilion. 3. Participated on county project renovation stewardship panels and its grand reopening to the public on October 25, 2013. 4. Scheduling quarterly public social dances with various themes that attracts visitors from southeast Texas.
