I noticed on the Attorney General of California Website under the charities section that save a pet registration # 056811 City Indio has submitted their RRF-1 in July of 2012 and that it was rejected because no 990 report was attached and an independent audit was not done. On the RRF-1 fiscal year ending December 31 2011 it states that save a pet has total assets in the amount of $1,949,995.00 and that the gross annual revenue is $4,099,847.00. An incomplete form notice was sent to save a pet December 7th 2012. According to the law State governments typically regulate the independent-audit requirement based on income – whatever the source. For example, in Pennsylvania, nonprofits that receive more than $300,000 in funds must file an audited financial statement with the Department of Revenue. In California, gross receipts totaling more than $2 million carry a similar requirement. Some states require an audited statement simply by virtue of fundraising there, regardless of where an organization’s headquarters may be located. WHY SAVE A PET DOES NOT KNOW THIS REQUIREMENT IS QUESTIONABLE OF A NONPROFITS ABILITY TO HANDLE THEIR AFFAIRS PROPERLY. This nonprofit was in the news just a few months ago regarding a break in on their property and asked for donations of food that was stolen and got other things donated. They played the public and had a lot of money already to take care of their affairs. If they had so much money why did they not put in security cameras after their first break in on their property. Also the review about lend a paw concerns me that a director at save a pet is involved with the mess of over $400,000.00 embezzled from that group. Save a pet needs a audit committee and maybe some new board members that know what they are doing especially with that kind of money involved.

Thom Davis the old director and the accountant were let go from save a pet in February of this year thank god. Thom Davis also has a felony record as the Yahoo reviews reveal. Also Thom Davis family members still work at save a pet. I hear that one of the director's their at save a pet is involved with another non profit Lend a Paw that is missing $409,000.00 as is stated on their 990 IRS report. (public record). I wonder were that money has gone?

I hear that they still have Thom daves family members working at save a pet and I wonder why the review from Lepold says otherwise. I would like to know how much money was received by the woman in Palm Springs last year millions I hear and read about? I see that the place was investigated by several agencies according to the yahoo local reviews. I see that Thom Daves and his accountant may have been let go and why? These questions should be answered and there should be no secrets about what happened. I could change my mind about the way I feel if I get answer on this site.

All of these reviews are out of date. Tom Daves and his family are no longer at the shelter. The rats left when he left it was an easy fix for the new management. This is an old shelter that had to be extensively improved, and has been done so. The remaining staff are kind and dedicated to the animals. Save-a-Pet quietly does much good work un- announced and rescues many animals from the city kill shelters. 400 dogs and over 200 cats found loving homes last year. It has been 30 years a no kill shelter, and now implements a low cost clinic for spay and neuter and a feral cat program. There are many thousands of animals that owe their life and happy home to this shelter. It is so easy to criticize.

I feel that the veternarian board investigation and code enforcement investigation have been justified. The vet board did cite save a pet and Dr. Bohn (public record) There is still a open code enforcemnet case. I feel that with Thom Daves felony record (drug charges) and with all the mismanagement of this nonprofit that Thom must be removed from the board. I don't think it is appropriate to have his family there working and making money. I looked back on save a pets 990 reports and it appears that Thom Daves did not get paid from 2005 all the way up to 2008. I was told by others that he was geting paid cash all those years. Thom Daves did finally report his pay in 2010 stating he was paid over $41,000.00 for the year 2009. I also don't agree that loans should have been taken by Thom Daves and Robbie and that loans are supposed to be approved through the attorney general. This is not right and I pray for save a pet and the animals.

I used to work for save a pet last year and know that there were rats inside and outside of the buildings. I still talk to a employee there and was told that the Vet Board has been there and that now the rat problem will be taken care of. Thom Daves was hardly at the shelter when I worked there and Thom Daves favored his family which was innapproriate. Thom Daves let Kevin the kennel manager verbally abuse other employees. I reported Kevin to Thom Daves but he would just excuse things. Some of the dogs had flystrike and it was left untreated to the point that the ears became bloody and infected. The dogs were hardly walked and became lonely. I don't think that Thom Daves should be running save a pet as well as having alot of his family working there. This is like a family bussiness and should be run like a non profit. GET SOME BOARD MEMBERS THAT ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS OR FAMILY. If you have chosen new board members tell the public who they are. The 4 MILLION DOLLAR DONATION that is being recieved is great for the animals and I know that Ann Woods said on KMIR that they are not receiving the money for 6 or more months from now. I wonder why it is taking so long to get the money?

I just don't understand how Thom Daves can be a Voting Board member along with his wife and I know that from other reviews on Yahoo local that they have there friend Robbie Phillips on the Board. Should they have a larger Voting Board I say yes and from my opinion I don't think Thom or his wife should be voting members and maybe not Robbie Phillips due to a possible conflict of interest. I don't think it is appropriate to have family control on the Board as well as alot of employees that are family. I know of other organizations that do not have family members on the Board. I hope that they get a new Board and post the information regarding who there Board members are as well as officers. (see Yahoo local reviews)
