Causes: Amateur Sports Competitions, Sports
Mission: The purpose of the corporation is as follows. The corporation holds and participates in practices, fundraising events, training clinics and public competitions (bouts) against other leagues for the purpose of fostering local, regional and national amateur sports competition and educating the public in the sport of women's flat-track roller derby. The group is managed by a board of directors elected by the members and operates under the game rules and standards established by the women's flat track derby association.
Programs: In 2017 the savannah derby devils participated in 6 all-star sanctioned bouts and 1 non sanctioned bouts and 5 bouts for their b-team the hostess city hellions. We participate in the sport of roller derby bouts in order to foster local, regional and national amateur sports competition and educating the public in the sport of women's flat-track roller derby. Several of the bouts were at the derby devils' home arena the savannah civic center. Average home bout attendance is 500-900 people. The savannah derby devils has reached out to several hundred women empowering them to reach beyond their limits and reach their full potential. Our bouts are attended by youth organizations who look at our skaters as role models and women they wish to emulate.
in 2017 the savannah derby devils promoted the sport of roller derby by offering two 15 week training sessions (meeting once a week) where the combined total of both training sessions taught 100 new people the sport or derby. This training allowed women to learn the sport while also promoting the health benefits of weekly physical activities. Costs incurred were for the rental of the training facility was $2,280.
the savannah derby devils are committed to giving back to the community either through volunteer services or charitable donation or both and contributed $3,120. 56 to various charities in 2017 which are listed in schedule o part i, expenses line 10.
