Our new name, Coastside State Parks Association, better reflects who we are and what we do. The fifteen California state parks we serve have a variety of needs, and we are positioned better than ever to meet those needs. We are a growing organization with increasing capacity to take on larger projects such as the rehabilitation of the equal access boardwalk at Año Nuevo State Park, an endeavor that will make it easier for those who need some assistance to view the wonders of this state treasure. We also partner with organizations like the California State Parks Foundation with whom we are jointly working on the restoration efforts at Pigeon Point Light Station.

Our members receive many benefits from our association with State Parks including invitations to guided walks and special events set in the parks. And because our parks are so diverse, there is something for everybody!

Our work never seems to end, and I'm glad to be a part of it.

Coastside State Parks Association (formerly San Mateo Coast Natural History Association) has existed since 1990, but since 2007, it has expanded its role to better serve the 15 state parks on the San Mateo county coast. Being a member enables you to participate in events at the parks that are not otherwise available.

The membership proceeds, along with other fundraising, pays for improvements in the parks that would not be possible with the current state budget situation. Funds from CSPA fully support the docent/volunteer training at parks such as Half Moon Bay State Beach, Pigeon Point Lighthouse, Pescadero Marsh, and Año Nuevo.

CSPA definitely makes a difference for these jewels of the coast.

San Mateo Coast Natural History Association has recently expanded its programs and changed its name to Coastside State Parks Association. The new name reflects both the expanded programs and the more active role that the association plays in support of California state parks. It is exciting to be able to work with an organization that get results and makes such a positive impact. Some recent examples include the construction of a foot bridge to provide access to the Pescadero Marsh which is now used by 15,000 school children each year; helping to fund the restoration of the Pigeon Point Light House; and raising money for a new equal access boardwalk to make Ano Nuevo accessible to everyone.

The group also holds exciting events such as a special photo tours of state park sites, a unique "Seal Adventure" day where participants get to see the elephant seals at Ano Nuevo up close and personal and special nature walks and tours of archeological sites.

Truly a unique organization that everyone who enjoys the coast should consider joining.
