Mission: Science fiction and fantasy fans organize conventions where fans can meet and discuss the art and literature of science fiction and fantasy. SFSFC was originally organized to bid for and when selected, host the 1993 World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon), and later went on to host the 2002 Worldcon, the 1999 World Fantasy Conference, and the 2000 West Coast Science Fantasy Convention (Westercon). SFSFC makes grants available to various charitable and cultural organizations with science fiction and fantasy elements, and is currently organizing conferences to help educate volunteer convention runners how to more effectively run SF conventions.
Programs: Our most recent large event was the 2002 Worldcon in San Jose (http://www.conjose.org/). As of 2005, we are currently in a relatively quiet period, but are currently organizing convention-running seminars to help others deal with the unique challenges of operating some of the largest completely volunteer-run conventions in the world.
